  5. I love this combo. I’ve never had an early vette and a homeless “W” motor at the same time tho.

And those Firestone tires. They were popular back when you could buy those type of tires, didn't get any mileage out of them but they looked cool. Can't put a price on that!

Pat you have that right on those tires. They looked great but lasted like a month it seemed. I ran some on my 64 Plymouth without the stripe and they were next to a joke for wear. Some of the Goodyears were a bit better. For whatever reason I used a number of Kelly Springfields that seemed to last longer. Less expensive and they had a good shape IMO. I also generally liked all black which is true for me to this day.

The first thing that hit me on that midyear though was the tires and wheels-great look.

My friend had goodyears on his 62 yellow Corvette and said that it rode hard (but looked great) and he thought that's why he had the stress cracks in the car. It was around 1970 in NYC.

The winningest Corvette of which I am aware.
Bill Jobe's 1964 Fuelie SCCA B-Production racer known as "Supernova".
After spending its first years as an autocrosser, Bill race prepped and entered it in SCCA National road race compe***ion in B-Production, a cl*** at the time dominated by Shelby GT350R and small block Cobras.
In 26 SCCA National races its record was:
    First Place - 18 times
    Second Place - 5 times
    Third Place - 3 times
    NEVER DNF'ED A RACE
SCCA B-Production National Champion FOUR consecutive years 1969-1972.

    A very tidy looking Corvette!
The Hoosiers are obviously more modern but those wheels sure look like magnesium British Minilites from back in the day, not seen much anymore but a nice alternative.
If I recall many teams in the TransAm series went to them when the American five spokes were cracking from all the side loading.

Don't remember where the Minilite wheels came from. Jerry Evans did most of the race prep. Engines were 331ci Traco built Chevrolets.
(At the time lots of people were apprehensive about magnesium in race cars after what happened to Jo Schlesser in 1968 at Rouen French Grand Prix in the magnesium F1 Honda RA302 car.)

ETA: About tires - There was a Goodyear Blue Streak race tire dealer in Dallas (memory fails me about the name) but Firestone Chief Test Driver was Lloyd Ruby from over in Wichita Falls and he got the guys some good deals on tires. Lloyd Ruby could also get access to the Firestone High-Speed Test Track near Ft. Stockton. Those days were always fun - bring extra engines.

Travers & **** engine shop was in the 11000 block of West Jefferson Blvd in Culver City CA better known as "Thunder Alley". John Mecom also bought a lot of engines from Traco. High quality engines.

The earliest-known Corvette race car. This Daytona Beach NASCAR Unit was created by Chevrolet Engineering for NASCAR stock car racing, and was probably a dual branding effort between Chevrolet's Ed Cole and NASCAR.

I've been seeing this one on Ebay for quite a while. Here's a pic with the ad description.

This particular ch***iswas restored to commemorate the famous EX87/5951 Corvettewhich set the 150 mph speed record at Daytona Beach in January 1956. It ispresented as closely as possible to the paint scheme and configuration of thatmilestone car in Corvette history. This Corvette has been an extremely successful vintagerace car appearing at Monterey Historics/Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion 5times. It was invited for 2014 but we were unable to attend. It has appearedat the Wine Country Cl***ic/ Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival 10 times andhas raced numerous times at Coronado and Portland. It is a consistent top 5 finisher in a racegroup which also includes the same period purpose built specials. It isconsistently the fastest production based car in its group. The Corvette haswon the Best Overall Performance and Presentation of The Event award at theWine Country Cl***ic 2003 and its share of the Motul Sportsmanship awardgiven to the team at the 2008 HSR-West Fontan Historic Festival and the DrivenTo Excellence award given to the team at Coronado 2011. Though it retains the correct 265 cubic inch displacement this car is running a ’56 block with a provision for an oil filter. The engine breathes through a period-correct 4-barrel Carter carb and retains the original stamped steel rocker arms required at more stringent vintage events. Normally straight-piped this car also has a Flowmaster setup for tracks that require lower volumes. A close ratio 3-speed heavy duty drums and two sets of wheels round out the package. At times my mind is so full of useless clutter that I cannot seem to remember if Chevrolet actually produced/modified a solid axle car (in engineering or otherwise) set up exclusively for drag racing. Anyone know of any such animal?

There was no information with the picture. It has a molded spoiler and side pipes too. I wonder if it was wrecked and repaired with a 67 front end. There were a lot of custom ones back in the day.
