    How's about this then that was built here in the UK, there's an awful lot of work ans craftsmanship to build an awful machine but why? I know that Ed Roth built the Druid Princess back in 1967
    when i was 16 but then it was WOW... Shorly Automatron as it's called is as Bleach says FUGLY -automatron-steampunk-hot-rod.jpg -automatron-steampunk-hot-rod.jpg

    What I CAN appreciate about all these "ungainly" cars is the effort the manufacturers were putting into looking different from each other. Trying to stand out and be easily recognizable. That led to a BUNCH of questionable choices, but, they sure weren't "cookie-cutter" by any means.

    I won't bash the kustoms and rods so much, as those are unique, personal visions, but, yeah, some less than pleasing results - in MY opinion. But, my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it. :D

    @DDDenny

    This atrocity emanated from the body shop of Mr. Frank Maratta, I believe of Waterford, CT, in the late '50s. It got an annual rehash for the show season for at least a few years that I am aware of. It reportedly began life as a '39 Mercury Sedan. I first saw it in the then current 'little pages' when I was an impressionable adolescent. It certainly DID leave a lasting impression on me, though more in the realm of a nightmare than a dream car!

    We all hear that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    Sort of on topic; a friend's wife was suing the local hospital after his recent surgery left him unable to perform in the bedroom. The hospital explained that they only removed his cataracts.

    Ugly is in the eye of the beholder as well...and perhaps even more so.

    Sorry, but yes. Just not my cup of tea. I looked at all the pics from all different angles and it just doesn't do anything for me. There are a lot of customs I love, but I have yet to see one with canted headlights that I liked. They were ugly stock on the Lincoln and ugly on everything else that copied them. I know some of you love them, that's OK, I'll just never be one of them.

    Its painfully obvious that the auto factories around the world have produced some pretty ugly cars and trucks. I seem to have collected a few of those cars and trucks myself.

    Its also pretty obvious that many custom cars took ugly to a whole new level.

    The guys I used to hang around often said that beauty is in the eyes of the beer holder, because that one country song said the girls all get prettier at closing time. I don't hang around them any more because they have seemed to take those song lyrics seriously, and hang around the bars until closing time. Gene
