This picture puzzles me a bit. It’s part of a group of pictures of a couple of guys scrapping cars, cutting them up with an acetylene torch. But in this one shot they’re carrying a spotless, shiny, bare block - looking like a diamond in a goat’s azz.
not exactly a hot rod, has four wheels tho... any idea what this is? i've had the pic for prob a decade in my wallpaper folder. the coupler like arms around the base grab something and hold it in line with the valve thingamabobs. was expensive/ impressive enough to get a builder's photo. chances are some damn war got this cut up for $.30 a pound. i have no idea what this is. railmounted pneumatically actuated thingamajiggy. prob made bakeolite hair brushes.
since we are onto stars and cars lately, here's one. the singing cowboy buck jones. ironically enough started his career as a stunt double to tom mix( of cord steamer trunk trauma fame) for 5 bucks a day. this is a 28-29 is caddy body with 1930ish doors, custom boat tail. buck died in the cocoanut grove fire in boston. he made it out and went in to save others. prob posted here before without the back story
wasn't a steamer trunk, it was one of the aluminum suitcases in the rear seat. (ufo. unsecured flying object). suitcase exists so does the car. not sure if the big one or little one got him. he hit a bar, may or may not have been hammered. missed bridge out signs at 80 mph supposedly. stood on brakes and flew into the wash. suitcase brained him. the cord would have done 80 easily.
Car on the left is a Buick, looks like 1929 plates on the little motorcycle powered cars. They built and raced two in 1910, one is restored today. Bob
