That's pretty fair. I had another friend compare it to a parking meter. The tranny is shaped kinda weird. I got groped by a tranny once, but it wasn't quite shaped like a parking meter.

Step 538:
It'd sure be nice to see the doors actually close. But, the doors are all wobbly sausage because about 1/4 of the damn things are missing.. Since you decided to take the stupidest route possible to build a car, the door bottoms have to be custom made.

Try to make it follow the door opening. Try to make it fit the '32 3W door panel. Discover that those two goals are mutually exclusive. Shrink and stretch all of the things until it does some stuff.

Driver's side done. Passenger side to be finished sometime between now and 2029.

 

Step #539:
Fit the 32 3W door panel. Become concerned when it sucks in about 3/4" in the middle after welding. Hit it with a variety of hammers with increasing desperation until it finally doesn't look terrible. Grind the welds and take pictures at an angle in poor lighting so the panel looks way straighter than it really is.

 

Damn Sparkle as always this is all so inspiring that it makes me want to work on my hot rod. I’ll probably just peruse Craig’s and what not for a Pan head project to veer off on. Thanks a lot!

glad you're back at it. i have always found its very hard to get started again if you pile it all up in the corner to do other things first. sometimes you look at a piece and think "what was i doing here?"

 

Your doing a much better job than the guy who tried to fix these doors. They are very heavy. I got them for free to fix my door tops.

I spend a lot of my time asking myself "what the hell was I thinking when I did that?"

If it's held up for this long, is it really a bad fix?

 

One door weighed 10 pounds more than the other.

That helps the door close with a good, solid, thunk. Basically, they turned it into a Mercedes.

 

You can have what I don`t use. I`m in Indy in June every year for the Custom Car Revival.

Step #540:

Remove the twisted and cut up inside plating of the A-pillar.
Install bear claw latch.
Neglect to take any pictures of the bear claw latch install.
Make new plate for the inside of the A-pillar.

 

Step #541:

Open and close the door a bunch of times and giggle. Gaze in wonder that the stupid thing actually closes and latches correctly.
Don't put in a door handle though. That's too ambitious. Some welding wire attached to the latch to yank on will be fine.
I'd include a video here of the door closing, but I guess the HAMB doesn't do video. It's on the Insta if you actually care about that nonsense.

 

I'd attach that to a wood base, some big buck Modern Art right there. Bob

Hilarious. Can't tell you how many times I've done that after completing a task on the build. Keep on it.

If you are in lockdown like most of us Johnny, then hopefully you have some time on your hands.
One of the best threads in a long time.

 

I'm not on full lockdown yet, I've been told to keep coming to work. I'll have to take time off pretty soon though. I probably won't get anything done though, because I like to be consistent.

 

Step 542:

Go to Japan. This was back in January. Normally I never get time to actually be a tourist when I'm travelling for work, this time I actually had a free day. I hopped on the Shinkansen and met Shorty at Pumpkin Sally. He was super awesome and didn't even seem to mind me wasting half his day since I was in the way. Haha. He has a sweet shop, and it is huge, especially for Japan. Great day.
I'm a terrible tourist, so I don't take many pictures and most of them are terrible. Sorry.

 

Love the Cooler, everybody needs one just like it.
