Preach it, brother. That has gor to be the UGLIEST car since Frank Maratta's custom Merc. I owned one and had difficulty even driving it as a winter sled. Oooooooh, it was ugly back in the early seventies when I got one for $125 to drive through the winter so I wouldn't have to drive my '71 Dodge Charger RT/SE. Now, they are still friggin' ugly, but I WANT one. Go figure...

I'm glad nobody mentioned the Nash Metropolitan. They're so ugly they're cute. I would love to have one.

  3. Five pages of posts and nobody mentioned the Marlin??
    What did I win?

Maybe the year to make the HAMB cut should be rolled back to 1964 just because of this car.

Even the models for the photoshoot don't want to look at it. :p

So-ugly-they-manage-to-be-cute is a key element of this thread. Some would argue the early Corvair (which I nominated) falls into that category. I certainly loved mine, warts and all (helped that they were ragtops).

I don't know that customs belong in this thread. Customs were one-offs, somebody's intentionally thought-provoking vision. Weird or wonderful, they can't compare to an ugly production car, where huge teams of professional designers, engineers and marketers all collectively contributed to the horror.

Finally, let me add another nomination: The Amphicar! Not only an ugly car, but also an ugly boat. That takes some doing.

people in pic look to be depressed about being near this car and do not want their faces shown - maybe just jump to end the embarrassment. Ha!

  7. Personally, I would love to have a Marlin! Something different than all the Camaros and Mustangs you see at some of the shows...

  8. That's a little better.

I have always thought the 38/39 Ford Pickups were butt ugly. I Built this '39 pickup back in the '90s and just couldn't live with that original grill. It took some work... used a modified '36 Pickup grill and made ugly a little less ugly...the cat on the roof agreed with my decision:D

  14. Probably wouldn't be half as bad if they had eliminated most of the trim. The trim items are way too large for that car.

Another beauty from the Soviet era, the Trabant. They used them as overhead stage lighting at a U2 concert I went to in the 90's. Could also include the Lada.
A car you couldn't tell if it was coming or going.

That's no ugly car, it's cute. It used to be made in communist Germany, but this one is from after the Wall coming down, with the 4 stroke Volkswagen engine, instead of the air cooled 2 stroke.

  17. Apparently that´s because Mrs Borgward really wanted a Karmann Ghia, but Mr Borgward wasn´t going to let her be seen in a competitors car.

I think time & styles change a lot . as the newer cars have no personality , but older cars are very distinct . in my day cars were ez to tell apart , today they are clones of the rest . most all older cars are cool as heck …………. JMHO ……… steve

The Citroen 2CV, along with the VW Beetle and Model T, arguable are the most significant automobiles of the 20th Century. Looks aside, the 2CV is a very cleverly engineered vehicle that fulfilled all the goals of it's intended use. Not common in the USA, they are beloved in many Countries around the world. I have one of these in a place of honor in my shop (a '57...within the HAMB era :D)

  25. I had a Citroen ID19 when I was young. A lot of neat features like 4 on the tree, one spoke steering wheel, adjustable hydraulic ride height, aluminum block engine etc. You had to remove the rear quarter/fender to change the rear tire... it was held on with one bolt you could remove with the lug wrench, and had two pins that slipped into the front. Body was also aluminum...
