I made slots in the backside of the little “bonnet” style air cleaners to improve the air flow a little on the 3x2 set up on my roadster. They weren’t noticeable unless you were looking for them. You could do something similar with the cake pan but it sounds like rustydusty has plenty of intake area for his application.

  3. There is a 1" gap between the filter and the cake pan. More area than the carburetor should need.

Looks really good. And if you're out on the road you can turn it upside down and heat up your dinner. :)

Don't even joke about it. Someone'll start an air filter element thread.

Neither one of those air cleaners is expensive. If there isn’t that kind of money in your budget I just don’t know what to tell you

Here's what I have on mine. The lids are for covering the top of your 4 barrel when you are washing your engine or something like that. The racer types will know. Never quite happy with the look so now I will be cruising the baking aisle of the store with a tape measure in my hand. IMG_1118.JPG

Never seen one of those! Trying to figure out exactly how it works; heavier stuff gets dropped into the jar after being "turbo'd" around by the intake vanes? Where's the actual air filter/cleaner? Lots of gimmicks were/still are, out there.

A the sticker says, it's just a pre-cleaner, a proper filter is supposed to come after it. It looks like it makes the incoming air rotate, centrifugal force makes heavy dust etc. rotate out towards the edges and fall into the jar while clean(er) air goes in towards the middle and out. Common device on equipment running in very dusty conditions.

  14. Changed the title to "unique air cleaners..." figured there is no reason to start another thread, so let's see what you guys have come up with for air cleaners.

  15. Just your louvered bonnet style air cleaners painted black with the louvers pinstriped to match the rest of the car.

Clark is building a cool one for the Y block. I think I saw a pic of it on IG. Maybe he will post a pic.

Polish them....makes a big difference. Tough to find a single to go over 3-2's if your looking to do that. There are 3 kitchen/resturant supply stores near me.

  19. I have one of these teardrops but not ON my vehicle at the moment. It's got that Earth Mother, egg shape, like a Harley gas tank, that everybody loves.
My '50 Chevy truck is full body and I think this filter "box" would be best on an open, hoodless rod. It's fiberglass and comes unpainted so matching the body, the interior or the firewall are obvious options.

  20. are those homemade or an older aftermarket piece? I have been looking for something like that for my dual quads in my 33 pickup.

The guys over at OTB Gear sell that identical air cleaner in cast aluminum for $259. A bit spendy but their stuff is pretty damn nice. This is a pic I snipped from thier site.

Here is one I did with a Mercury hubcap I had hanging around. I was running a 4 bbl carb at the time but have since pulled it off. Will be going to 3 x 2s at some point. Was accused of it being too rat roddy! Pffft.
