Hot Rods Hemi Project

About to start a Dodge 331 engine rebuild. Appears to be an original unopened unit.

I have have but two questions for now.

1. Can anyone recommend a reputable machine shop anywhere around Tyler, Texas?

2. Might there be someone out there telling me a good place to source replacement pistons for an over bored 331.

Any help is appreciated.

 

Sounds like a Chrysler from a Dodge truck. Identify your engine first before doing anything.

Anyway here's a bump. Others will chime in too.

Not sure if Tinkers still doing motors out in East Texas.....he and his son had a hand in the motor that's in the Scorpion clone that Don Ross built.

 

Your are very correct. Thanks. After some research it was identify as being from a 1955 Chrysler Imperial.

Call hot heads and get a catalog. They have everything you will need.

 

Spend some time reading through the hemi tech here on the HAMB. There's a lot to these old elephants and a bit of it is money. Make wise choices about what you want out of this mill and go for it.

Please do your research before jumping into the rebuild. These things are expensive to rebuild (aren't all 50's vintage engines???) and there are some areas that need particular attention.
Although the HemiTech section has been cluttered with off-subject banter it is still worth reading through...yes, it is a very long read.
