The green on the '53 was eye magnetizing.

His Dad told him, it would ruin the resale value of the car. He still had it when he passed away.

I took a picture of his door panel in Springfield, the bottom pic was taken in Michigan. George West. I was trying to take a picture of his interior, so he opened up the door for me. Scan0928.jpg

That was George West's (R.I.P.) Merc. He was a heck of a nice guy & a L.L.K. member... Front wheel drive & trick through out.

And you forgot Diesel powered. Being a kid at the time, It seemed like he was older than most of the custom guys showing cars. Heck of a nice guy was an understatement. A frontal view from a show later on. Scan0929.jpg

Oh, I remember it being diesel powered... George had a positive attitude and a philosophy about using O.E.M. parts exclusively. "The junk yard is your friend" He felt that in the event of a break-down, you could get everything you needed for a repair at any parts store. No aftermarket B.S.. Brilliant!

16 year old me was at that show, but I didn't see that kid in any of the pics. It's super cool to see the fairgrounds circa 1986 and pick up the things that have not changed.

    Thanks for sharing the photos!

  29. I know some on here will think I'm a little sick in the head for saying this but I love kustoms that were built in the 80's.I think they look better than the kustoms built prior to the 60's.

The customs of the 80's are just like the customs from prior years; Some are amazing... some are butt-ass ugly. And so it goes!
