Amazing pics! Most of these cars are just 'riveted' or 'bolted' together without benefit of welds...even the frames....these old-time drivers were really in a unique class all their own....total respect! :D

  2. Here are a couple from my family pictures:
First is a pic of my grandfather aboard what is described as an American Underslung circa 1905. The second is a special (not sure of the donor vehicle) 50313 007.jpg OldSpeedster1.jpg apparently my uncle built with my mother and aunt aboard.. Not sure of the year but my mother graduated from high school in 1927.

  5. There is a great silent movie called WINGS. There is a great little T speedster built in the beginning of the movie before the hero goes off to fly in the great war. I'd capture and post a picture of it if I knew how. Maybe someone who knows how can find it and post a picture or two.

Has anyone been on P. N. W. Vintage
Speedsters, I had this site bookmarked
on my now dead desk top. Many old
Vintage and new builds , but all were
    interesting.

  10. Terrific pics. I love them, but mine is too new...

  11. Thanks Mac The Yankee. I looked up the movie and snapped some pictures off my TV screen. You can see the suspension mods they made to get it lowered. A lot of work for a movie car back in 1929.

I'm thinking I'm going to braze vs MIG welding FR my steel joints. Will give a cleaner and more period correct look. IIRC brazed joints can be just as strong as welded ones.

Are you talking about body parts or chassis parts?

Awesome! My buddy use to have an Oakland chassis he wanted to make something out of. Wooden frame rails also. Some one stole it on him...

Ziggster have you been communicating with Rich Scaldwell, owner of the V-8 J.A.P. GN? Did you know Pavel Malanik is building a recreation of the V-8 J.A.P. engine ?I did ask ...sadly, 81930695_2733199443406960_1293803256618680320_n.jpg 81906343_2733208410072730_8903953781452963840_n.jpg 83334672_2763232763736961_952814636074270720_o.jpg 84311470_2763234013736836_6638358653072048128_o.jpg 84386066_2763234257070145_2670887239071825920_o.jpg he's only building the one.

No I haven't reached out to Richard. When doing my research I didn't find any personal info as it's been 10 years I think since he built it. I'm guessing he wants to keep it that way which is fine with me. I'm not going to "copy " his recreation because I can't and really I don't wish to, but instead pay tribute in my own way.
Never heard of Paval Malanik, but that block looks awesome. I always wondered how hard it could be to recreate such an engine. Anything is possible when you pursue a dream. The trick building such an engine is always the crank unless he can get a hold of an original, but it appears he knows of what he is doing. The Old Motor article of his recreation of the North London Garge 1909 reminds me of a few vids I have watched recently of Allen Millyard's incredible engine work. These are geniuses on another level.
