I thought I would post this on the main forum to see if anyone else had experience with intake leaks. Intake is seeping a few drops of Antifreeze at the front p***enger side. Does this matter? Am I overreacting? What should I do? Thanks! Here's pics. 1st is after the first test drive. Notice small drops. 2nd is tonight after drying off last night. Tighten bolts on intake? Use silicone on edge of manifold? Redo the whole thing? Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I would definitely re-torque, that coolant leak could also be getting into the oil through the lifter valley.
Will do. That concerns me too. The dipstick looked good. No chocolate milk. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Would that hurt anything? I wondered about that. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Will not hurt a thing, I had a good friend who was a GM mechanic and he swore that the tablets worked great. I personally use this with no failures,
Ok. I saw that they were used at the GM plant. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Using these products with an original 1932 radiator kinda has me scared. I don't want to cause more damage fixing a very minor leak. I also want the leak fixed as well though.... Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Have you checked the machining of the intake manifold to make sure it's true to the block and heads? If it's not square it could cause a vacuum leak on the intake ports also. Just something to check...
I wouldn't put that **** in my block, the Chevy manual tells you what to put on the bolts....you gotta book...?
It looked good to us. The intake was early and hand made lots of pitting..... Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yes. I did put the correct stuff on the bolts. I believe it is leaking on the outside edge of the intake gasket. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What brand gaskets did you use? When I had problems on my Chevy it became evident Edelbrock gaskets were not very accurate. In addition the front water p***age area tends to leak unless sealed very well.
I used Felpro gaskets. We also used a dab of black silicone on the front and back of the gasket. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I would worry about the lines more than a/f leaking . Looks if they bend a a little more they could close and not allow fuel to flow.
While they generally work ,some intakes on some heads are difficult to seal .When I had trouble with an old TR , I bought the cheap gaskets from comp. Products and used a " bit" more silicone around the water p***ages ,got it on the second try ! While the bolt holes are indeed blind , you can still have seepage around the bolt from the coolant port , the Teflon paste will sometimes work , or good old fashioned aviation permatex !
Yes. We plan on shortening the rear fuel lines. They are too long and loopy in my opinion. Here's how they should be per the original car. Our clear fuel were on the car originally. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yes. That's the way we may have to go eventually. Hopefully there is just a bit of external seepage that can be sealed. I pray something is no letting coolant into bad places. We started and ran the car on a wet day. I did notice quit a bit of condensation and "smoke" coming from the rear crankcase vent and wet condensation around and in the front oil fill and breather. I thought surely it was just coming alive again and clearing out all the crud from running poorly for so long. The dipstick was clean looking with quite a bit of fuel contamination from running so rich and fouling plugs. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
