I'd like to use an old aircraft engine in something. A Liberty V8 would do. Definately something different.

It may not be American, but I have always wanted to put one of these lightweight screamers in an open rod.

Stone, thanks. I was hoping I could get away with not posting an intro but... I suppose I will have to do so.

The car is my dad's '29 roadster. I've got a y-block (picking it up tomorrow, actually)... which I hope to do something similar with. Here are a couple more pics for ya:

a tricked out, chromed, tunnelrammed 500 caddy just because I've never seen one,but I have one and I'm thinkin bout it(maybe)

  11. I'd give both of my nuts to have a blown and injected Ardun . . . but wouldn't just about everybody!

  12. A v-16 Allison aircraft engine Green Monster style. Bad to the bone.

  13. How about a 671 blown 430 MEL....:)

my vote is torn between the caddy v8, and a old flathead, both decked out in finned aluminum and at least 3 carbs on top..

I'll second that on the 500 caddy,I'm a bit biased though,I already have a 500 with dual quads on it in the A C-dan.I've got some finned ally 365 caddy valve covers to go on it with adapters.:D

Nope........already have what I think is the coolest looking motor in my coupe....a fully dressed out flathead.....high compression heads, three 97's, chromed headers......like that.......always gets a lot of attention and a lot of younger guys just spectatin' at shows aren't even sure what the hell it is!!! They ask, *Is that a Hemi?*..............I just grin........Flatheads have soul!

What a delima, I really love the look of a Hemi but the question is what I would have in my rod. As boring as it may be for some, I loved the sbc since I was in high school in the mid-60s so it will be all I have in my rod. Please forgive my sacrilege.

Mine currently has the old standby Chev. 350. However, I think it would look great with a '49 Merc. with finned heads and 2 97's.quote=AHotRod]If you could have any V8 engine in your HotRod, What would it be?
    A 392 Hemi?

    A 394 Olds?

    A 364 Buick?

Let's see and hear your story!

Easy answer because I've still got it, and it's earmarked for a Model "A".

My Mickey Thompson valve covered, factory fuel injectioned, Hurst supershifted Muncie 4 speed backed, 421 Pontiac, after I polish the bellhousing, and repaint the F.I. doghouse flawless gloss black lacquer just like it was when I ran it on my 57 Safari in the late 70s.

Either a 348/409 or an early Hemi with a highly chromed 6-71 blower with a tri-power mounted on top! ( and tons of chrome accessories ) Just a thought.

  25. Millions have already said it here but I'll say since I had one years ago.......
nothing says power and hot rod like a '50's Hemi, be it the Chrysler Firepower, DeSoto Firedome, or Dodge Red Ram!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To me , nothing looks cooler.................granted a Flattie is more trad, but then Arduns looked somewhat like Mopar's Hemi.......so I say Go Hemi!!!:D

Well I gotta tell ya, I love my 512cid big block cadillac! not just for the looks (it's huge) but for the the unbelievable torque this thing puts out! Over 620ft/lbs at 2600rpm and 480 some hp at 3800rpm. For fun driving real hard to beat, and it only ways 35lbs more than a SBC.
It's a 1968 eldorado block with a 1970 eldorado crank, oldsmobile 455 rods, custom made venolia pistons for 10:1 comp. ratio, ported heads and a fairly mild cam (.499 lift and 286* duration).
