My brother in law works for Electric Boat, obviously has to work. In the last couple of days they have had 3 confirmed cases, and my 92 year old Mom lives with them. I am pretty much self isolating, have not been to visit her in weeks so as not to expose her now i wonder if that is the best option. I give thanks every day for my Sister and Brother in Law doing so much for her, keeping her out of a nursing home, but still worry every day.

I am fortunate enough to have been able to bring my business computer home and work from here. It's just me and the wife and we seem to have everything we need to ride this out. My workplace fabricates and installs ornamental and decorative metals. If Va decides to shut down construction sites that'll put the install crews out of work which will put the shop out of work which will put me out of work. For the short term that might be best though since our installers are exposed to a lot of people at construction sites and that worries me.
On weekends since there are no shows, auctions or swap meets to attend, I'm getting a lot of projects done around the house and might even get a little work done on the '32 and/or the Falcon.
Everybody stay in and stay safe. I am praying for this scourge to be over soon.

I'm headed to the Walmart parking lot with my Will Work For Toliet Paper sign. I will be wearing a mask. Not really. I'm laying low at the house. I do drive around some in the coupe by myself. Ya'll be safe and take care.

This made me laugh to tears. The visual of airborne raw chicken is priceless.

  6. Luckily Even though our campus is off limits and apprenticeship classes were cancelled for the rest of the year, I’m able to work from home on paperwork stuff, now if the weather would cooperate....

Used to worry about unprotected sex, and now you can die from a handshake ;):D

  8. Yeah, I escaped syphilis in the '70's, aids in the '80's, a massive heart attack 3.5 years ago all for this? My GF is a little freaked out, she has her own place so that works. I have 10 working days, will be more like 7, I'm taking a few more days off before I'm out, screw 'em.

1 in my building went home 2 weeks ago with the virus, just as I got back from vacation. He was sick as hell 2 weeks prior... I don't deal with him. 2 in the other building have it, they shut that down for cleaning on Thursday. My building is shut down all weekend for cleaning.

My son was talking to his uncle, my BIL. His FIL died in the hospital on Friday from the virus, he was 86 and in shaky health. BIL and his wife are locked down in the house, both have it. My son dropped off medications he picked up for them on the steps outside and ran. He is 55, she is 61. He's in ok health, his wife smokes and has asthma.

Me, I'm home playing with guns and cars, no store shopping. Anything I need I duck into a local deli and I'm in and out in 2 minutes... do need beer, may as well grab a few cases to limit my exposure. The cats are glad to have me around. One son, his work is closed until May 1st and his union is paying them. My other son is a gear cutter and grinder, works four 10-hour days, off Friday. We're all staying home and being careful.

I was sick in Florida early last month, went to the doctor when I got back, so did my GF. She took the test and passed, its going through her office like wildfire, at least 12 with the virus and a few in the hospital. She is working from home, but goes in once a day to get the mail. She wipes that down with Clorox wipes outside before she puts it in her car, wears a mask & gloves.

We're fine now and we never had a fever or flu symptoms. So we may have had it. Kids were sick earlier in the year, they may have had it.

  9. I was at my buddy's shop when I was off Thursday with my GF's car, it needed an oil change and minor stuff. The shop is like Fort Knox... nobody gets past the glass window in the foyer. Put the keys in the door slot and come back later.

@bobss396 I've got a buddy at station 18 in Manhattan, talked to him a couple of weeks ago to check on him. He told me that one of the guys in that station on his shift had the virus and was in ICU on a vent, critical condition, and truly thought he wasn't gonna make it. 3 kids and a wife, in perfect health. Sent him a text the other night to check the status of this fireman and he is out of the hospital, home and doing good. He was treated with the Z-pac and hydroxychlorequine.

We self quarantined almost a month ago now. Some where I read or heard at that time that my kind was the primary target of this shit. Eighty one y.o. male, open heart couple of years back, replacing a intake valve, (Aortic), rerouting (3) fuel lines, (bypass), also diabetic (running lean) on oral meds and insulin, and more than a couple of mini strokes called TIA's. No stopping and laying down though, I'm still doin what I've always done, just slower and easer ways. I went out to the shop, dug out one of my N95 face masks, grabbed a box of my rubber gloves, threw both in the Enclave and went shopping for a weeks groceries, doing the same every week since. Tried to explain to wife with dementia what was going on, (with some success) and why we have to stay home and have been living that way since then. We have a nice sized lot for being urban folks, with front and back yards that we have been active in, (my wife still has her wits about her for the most part, just extremely bad with short term memory and she loves to work in the ground with flowers and landscaping), when the weather has been ok, (above 50), and of course I have my 34 to tinker with. I posted last week about brake issues and not being willing to go into HF for a vacuum pump, but I did it anyway so that is on the agenda.
Grocery stores here now have seniors hours on two days of the week which is very nice of them.

A personal note here, which I have to believe many of us are realizing. Me being born when I was, (1939) and living the life I have in terms of doing what I want, when I want, and how I want,...…. was taken for granted to be sure. I did realize of course that my freedom was always there, but having some of that now on hold sure makes me appreciate what it means to be a free American and so lucky to land in the USA at birth.
Tha, tha, tha, that's it folks, stay your distance, ware protection like when you were dating as a teenager and younger guy, and I think we just might get to make a few more cars, and or shows.

  17. I remember, as a little kid, asking my mom and dad about those smallpox vaccination scars on their upper arms.
And I remember getting polio vaccinations when I was in grade school and being tested for TB pos/neg when I was in high school.
In the 90s, when I was single, twice I went in tandem with fresh, new girlfriends to the 'free clinic' to have our blood tested for AIDS.
We live in a World Community more and more these days. Nothing stays a local problem in one single hot spot.

Keeping close to home, did deliver a customer chassis to the trucking terminal Tuesday so that got me out of the house for most of the day. Working on slicking up my new French flat head block and will start another customer chassis next week although I can only build the perimeter as I'm waiting on parts from So-Cal Pomona and Winters. Went to the liquor store this morning, he said business was really good. Haven't seen a roll of toilet paper in the stores for 3 weeks. I'll supplement working in the shop by going for 2-3 rides a day in the country. Guess I'm lucky living in Nebraska as to date we have just about the lowest Covid rate to date. I do notice at 75 years old younger people are looking at me like I'm a pariah but maybe that's my imagination? The disease touches us all, I have a nephew in intensive care isolation in Phoenix who is just starting the road to recovery from this dam virus.

We are almost a week into self isolation.

And its really upsetting me to witness my wife standing at the living room window gazing aimlessly into space and tears running down her cheeks.

It really breaks my heart to see her like this. I have thought very hard about how I can cheer her up!

I have even considered letting her come in, but rules are rules.....

Why is it I always see the appreciation for the medical folks and EMS people and police and fire folks, and they all deserve our appreciation by the way, but nobody ever mentions the poor SOB running the local sewer plant, or water works, or electric utility. Without those all us self quarantined folks would be crapping on the back lawn and drawing water by candle light! Just saying.

Hell my respect goes to the folks at the grocery store, parts counter, Javier at the Mexican restaurant that's still doing takeout orders, the little old lady where i buy my chewing tobacco, the truck drivers that are bringing the shit we need to survive, the guy that's still picking up my garbage, Gene's janitor service that's bringing our toilet paper and cleaning supplies to the firehouse, e.t.c... it takes everybody to make this wagon roll.

I'm also a certified fireman and EMR on a volunteer staff of about 10 in our rural town (second from left, apparently constipated). We have one in quarantine now with symptoms from assisting a sick patient. I'm over 60 and lost my spleen years ago, plus not a full EMT, so only outside assists for me now. But my heart goes out to the other volunteer responders, whom I'm known and been friends with for over a decade, for continuing to put themselves on the front lines. We've had a ton of special PPE training since this started. Every stitch of gear, the rigs, the firehouse has to be decontaminated after a medical call.

  26. I work in a steel mill, they say we’re essential. I think they mean expendable. The other folks listed above actually offer something to society. Most of out customers are closed so why are we at work?

Been self quarantining other than going to the office or grocery store. My job is 'essential' (deemed critical by some) so I'm still working. Cable TV Co. People have to have their cable, phone and internet during these times, especially to stay current and to work or school from home. Couple weeks ago, we suspended our service techs from entering homes. All service call trouble shooting being done outside the home. This has presented some challenges and in turn some very creative work arounds by service techs, walking customers through modem/cable box swaps via facetime or through an open window.

Wife is furloughed. Just her and I and our youngest, a HS Senior at home. Really sucks as Prom, Senior night, graduation and College walk through looks to be a no-go. For the last month we've not seen our 3 older kids, Grandchild or Parents as they're all self quarantining in their homes.

Panic grocery buying has slowed. Stores are now opening an hour early for Seniors and disabled. Also, now limiting high demand items to one or two per shopper to spread over more families.

I've been through enough Socal wildfires, earthquakes and power outages over the last several decades, that I always have at least 2 weeks of food on hand (and gas for the generator). Did a couple of big grocery runs so now we're up to probably 8 weeks. Going forward, milk at 7/11, eggs at local egg farm that has set up a drive through circle for retail.

Did last big run last Sat at Costco. I'm an early bird. Left at 6:30 to get in line for a 10:00 opening! Brought the laptop to do some work/surf the net. Told the Wife I'd grab a pair of carts and to meet me later closer to opening. I was about 80th in line (almost to back of building)! People started lining up at 4:00! They opened early at 9:00 and at that point, the end of the line was a good several hundred yards long. They did groups of 50 at a time through the store. It went quick including checkout, got all we needed (even TP).

People here have an insatiable need to socialize. Even after closing down all the beaches, parks, trails, etc., people are still showing up looking to party, play basketball etc. Cops are now starting to cite offenders.

Lay low and stay safe everyone. We'll get through this!

  28. My Self-Isolation Quarantine Diary
Day 1 – I Can Do This!! Got enough food and beer to last a month!
Day 2 – Opening my 2nd case of beer. I fear beer supplies might not last!
Day 3 – Strawberries: Some have 210 seeds, some have 235 seeds. Who Knew??
Day 4 – 8:00pm. Removed my Day Pajamas and put on my Night Pajamas.
Day 5 – Today, I tried to make Hand Sanitizer. It came out as Jello Shots!!
Day 6 – I get to take the Garbage out. I’m So Excited! I can’t decide what to wear.
Day 7 – Laughing way too much at my own jokes!!
Day 8 – Went to a new restaurant called “The Kitchen”. You have to gather all the ingredients and make your own meal. I have NO clue how this place is still in business.
Day 9 – I put liquor bottles in every room. Tonight, I’m getting all dressed up and going Bar hopping.
Day 10 – Struck up a conversation with a Spider today. Seems nice. He’s a Web Designer.
Day 11 – Isolation is hard. I swear my fridge just said, “What the hell do you want now?”
Day 12 – I now realized why dogs get so excited about something moving outside. I just barked at a squirrel.
Day 13 – If you keep a can of beer in each hand, you can’t accidentally touch your face.
Day 14 – Watched the birds fight over a worm. The Cardinals lead the Blue Jays 3–1.
Day 15 – Anybody else feel like they’ve prepared and eaten about 395 snacks and the month is not over?

  30. At age 76, with a compromised immune system, active (but controlled) cancer, and two serious autoimmune diseases, I have the odds so heavily stacked against me that I self isolated on the first report of the virus in my province. It was just a matter of common sense, knowing that humans don't have any immunity to this, and that it spreads before the carrier is symptomatic.
It is really difficult to imagine my life now, as compared to that of the healthy, active person I was for most of my life. Crap happens, and I still feel lucky, a lot of close friends didn't make it this far. I make it a point to remember them.
I decided that my project, would be to clean up some of my lifetime of collected paperwork. I can tell you, that it is a far more difficult project than I could have imagined.
I have found some important papers that had been misplaced, but it takes a lot of time to pick this fly crap out of the pepper. I will, however, reluctantly admit that what I am accomplishing is worth the effort.
I guess I should have gone with my first option, which was to clean and organize the workshop.
    Bob
