Technical Post some pics of your radiator overflow bottles for 30s hotrod

Building a "traditional" model A on 32 rails with 32 grill (see avatar/profile photo) with a sbc. I hope to take it to the drag strip regularly, so, I need a radiator overflow bottle. I may run a hood from time to time, so it needs to fit under a hood side panel. I'd like one that is interesting and cool!

Depending on rules at your drag strip !.
All the indoor car shows in the early 1960s,over flow water can was mandatory ,along with a drip pan under engine after you were set up in place for show.<I used a big cookie sheet that had about a 1inch side lip,all the way around in South Florida.
I've used a few things,for my own rods an help my son too. On my 28A I use a stainless steel lunchbox Thermos.
My son Lance's 23T ,
use of a alum beer bottle{a blue one ,it's a match to rods body color.

For a short time in the early 60s used a alum Army Canteen/highly polished,that I gave to a buddy that thought he had to have it.

 

My '35 Ford overflow made from a Vodka bottle (aluminum). It's been on the car since 2002, only 50,000 miles...works good.

 

I've seen some neat ones. old fire extinguishers etc.
I did a quick search and didn't find what I was looking for but, ran across a neat one @Robert J. Palmer made from an old metal oil filter canister.

 

Hose onto the ground, it's more traditional that way.

 

Going on a '30 sportster,
got the thermos [no glass] for xmas,
just bought a OHV 4cyl. so future engine bay pix probably won't happen...

All my cars get one and I use them as recovery not just overfill. Also love the vodka bottle idea.

 

Mine. Store bought (sorry) OTB Gear, mounted to the fan shroud and connected from the bottom via a polished SS line that you can see running up alongside the bottle. Ribbed for her pleasure.

 

I always thought a beer can was cool...……….before I was old enough to buy it.

 

I made this one out of some exhaust tubing and some iron plumbing fittings. It was for a survivor hot rod and I took my cues from the lakes plugs already on the car. I ended up welding a bracket and bolting it to the rad support but I seem to only have pics with the temporary zip ties in place. The clear thing was also replaced with black .

 

The metal Canteen on the T in post 7 is close to what a lot of guys used on their drag cars when they started requiring puke cans. I'm not a fan of glass bottles used for that although a Liquor bottle seemed to be popular in some circles years ago.
Those stainless/aluminum water bottles are in just about every yard sale for under a buck most of the time and some of them are pretty good size. Not hard to give a brushed finish to or just paint the same color as the surroundings so they fade into the background and don't bring attention to themselves.

 

That one Cactus1 did sure looks spot on cool. A piece of exhaust pipe and a couple of freeze plugs the right size might work quite well too.

Antique, brass fire extinguisher gutted and plumbed for reserve and overflow, plus dipstick.

 

many shown canisters do not appear to have overflow tube from it when it gets full - some don't see way to see how full canister is, and are pretty small - guess most keep coolant low enough in radiator that if coolant ever expands it will not push much, if any out

 

My Dad's idea. The mount is a 4" exhaust clamp.

The drag strip will want a closed container of at least 16 ounces. They may let you by with an open container, but will probably tell you to do better next time.
