1952-59 Ford United Pacific LED Headlamps

Anybody used the United Pacific Dual Function LED Headlamp****emblies? Recently, the 31400 was upgraded. Expensive but looks like it does the job. I ordered mine and got a great price on EBay. $40.00 less than Amazon. Apparently, no relays are required: Plug & Play! This is important to me because I converted to 12 volt using only the needed original wiring. Then there is the alignment. Will report after I install them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/112643183929

Yes, will post when on car. Will not look exactly as original, but for what I anticipate they will provide, it will be worth the change in looks.

Good articles Jeff. Yes, I too was quite concerned about power draw as I have Halogens in my ‘34 & had to use relays. After a lot of discussion with suppliers and investigation (1 day) it seems that many advances have been made on headlamps. The particular headlamp I am using is a complete housing with heatsinks, wiring, etc. All say no amperage draw issues, hence no need for relays. No, here is what I have at 0.53

This is the 31400 which has been replaced by the upgraded 31391. Mine does not have an Amber Light Bar

 

I installed some lights that I bought from a company called Litezupp. They are also an LED light. The brightness compare to the Halogen bulbs is amazing. I will post some pictures of the comparison later. The bulbs were about $60 each, which looks to be considerably less than the UP ones. Pictures later.

I cant tell you that Litezupp is truly Amrican made but when I spoke with them at the Goodguys Texas Motor Speedway event they told me that they originally started making motorcycle lights in their garage and had recently began making them for autos. Anyway, I did this comparison in my shop with some cardboard but I think you can see the difference. Litezupp on the left, halogen on the right.

I am waiting for a night drive and see how other drivers react to them. I aligned them but the beam is certainly bright.

 

I have same concern for other drivers. I like the manual adjusting method but being an ex bodyshop owner and bodyman, I would prefer the gauges. Will likely pay to have them aligned properly. I love the LEDs on my family cars and hope for near to the same results on the ‘53. Next thought will be interior and tail lights. Would be great for under the hood too. In fact, my whole garage..lol

Does the 31400 LED light come with the stupid looking ring on the outside? Looked at Summitt listing they they note it has accent lights in different colors. Is the accent lights the ring?

 

The headlamps are in. Easy install, no issues. Look bright now, but will test tonight. They do not look outrageous. They only have low and high beam lights, no others. Only issue may be that the lenses are plastic. I just have to be careful when cleaning. Otherwise, plastic is like today’s cars.

 

Litezupp lights are glass lense.

 

I think glass is better. At least they don’t fog in time.

 

I put aftermarket lights in my 56 about 10 years ago and the glass is not clear anymore.

Hey Okie - did you ever make that night drive? If so, how did the other drivers react to the beam? I'm considering these in my '55.

 

What many of us would like to see is a before and after picture at night.

 

I did and got no flashes at me, sure makes night driving nicer.
