That is why I quit trying to adjust float levels on Holley that have a few years on them with out having O rings in hand.

  2. Someone is going to get all upset over this but you can clear a cylinder with a match or a candle. Pull the plug and light it off. It is going to blow the candle or match out. Bababam done.

  3. With the amount of fuel it had it may blow my pants off too.

No, everything sounds ok to me,ill try a socket also

    Me too bud...

I was told it was rebuilt....I know now

  4. No it won't. Just don't use a bic lighter or it may blow your finger off. I have been doing it for years, lawn mowers, motorcycles, large bore motors. Trust me I would not do a thing to hurt you, well maybe if I was there to laugh. But not from this distance.

Kind of like using starting/lighter fluid to seat a tire bead? It can be done but I don't have the balls to do it.

  6. LOL first time I did it I jumped out of my skin.

I still remember the first time my granddaughter did a tire bead with starter fluid. She way overdid the starter fluid I said, "Hold on sweetheart!!!" but it was too late. After the initial shock wore off she walked over to me, slugged me on the shoulder and said, "Go to hell Grandpa." Gawd I love that girl. :D <3

If your running an electric fuel pump with out a regulator to carb. you will blow gas right by the seats in carb. need to set fuel press.at around 4-6 lbs. or go to a reg mech. pump for that veh. definitely change oil and filter before you gas wash your bearings. good luck.

  9. Thank you ..I do have a regulator...it's at 5 psi right now but I believe I need a bitore pressure since it wants to die at idle..I'm increasing fuel pressure and rasing the float slowly it seems it's getting better...BUT I feel like it's running a little rough...

  10. i can absolutely guarantee you 5psi is way more than enough to just idle correctly.
If raising the fuel pressure changes the idle quality it’s forcing fuel out of places not it’s not supposed to (unmetered).
    It possibly needs more jet.

  11. A Holley likes 6-7 psi, I've ran as high as 7.5 without lifting the needle off the seat but that's with good parts in the carb and a totally different application than you have, but I've always ran at least 7 psi in my Holleys.
Carter and Edelbrock 4 barrels like 4.5-5 psi, anything more in those is definitely to much.

Yes, and remember, the fuel is sucked out of the float bowls by air going past, the float bowls are merely reservoirs for the fuel.

Are those quick fuel needle and seats you show? If they have a flat bottom at the end of the needle, that is a flaw that will give you fits. Ask me how I know.

I answered your other thread. It looks like the bottom of the needles are flat. That is not good as they will hang up on the float arm, If they are Holley needle and seats they should have a rounded bottom to prevent this. This gave me fits with a tunnel ram I had with new carbs. Changed them and problem went away. DSC00177.JPG

Considering the poster's "handle", I 'm wondering what the involved engine is. Call me an alarmist, but I'm just raising the question: if a flathead, isn't there a good chance of there being a small pool of gas in the intake port, and, worse yet, at any low points in the exhaust system. Any concerns therefrom?

  17. any engine can have an open valve and a pool of fuel anyplace along the line. I know that the engine is not a flatty but it would not concern me if it was.

The flathead has a significant undrainable volume in its intake port, whereas OHV's typically have none. Also, if trying to "pump" fuel from the cylinder by cranking the engine with the plugs removed, there is comparatively minuscule chances of it passing to the exhaust system of an OHV, due to the exhaust port being higher than the plug hole. I'll defer to you on whether there should be any safety concern.

Shall we pick at this some more? Why is it pump handles are green for diesel and for gasoline it's black? Is it an artistic color palette kind of logic? Or is fuel smarter than we?

I worked at a Mobil station in the mid '70's. Their mid grade regular gas had green handles. Used to confuse the hell out of the few diesels that pulled up to the pumps.

  23. Someplace in the world there is a pick of the swamp rat standing on a wood bench pouring pop while smoking. A cigarette will seldom ignite most liquid fuels, I cant say about nitromethane, we used to put cigarettes out in a coffee car of gasoline when I was in high school.

It is the fumes from gasoline that ignite or burn (not compressed in air) not the liquid. A cigarette does not have an open flame and the cherry is not hot enough to ignite the fumes in open air.

Is it advisable to smoke while fueling up? Probably not but I'll bet that at least 70% of the people reading this don't think that smoking under any conditions is advisable and would get seriously offended if you smoked in their shop or living room. LOL

  26. well hello governor!
It seems like I dodged a bullet with my sbc..
its running and not leaking anymore...
It is running But I notice a horrible Vibration.
I had a vibration before that sounded like a bad fan thermostat bearing so I bought a new one but still got a noise at idle that went away after...
today I started the truck after I replaced sparkplugs and noticed the horrible vibration.,,got under the truck and noticed the noise was coming from the flywheel...
    this is what I found,

does anyone have a part number for a flywheel for a 90s centerbolt chevy 350 and 700r4 trans???
and maybe where to look up at the correct torque specs??
    thanks for any leads..
