  6. Too bad he didn't use better wheels up front.

  7. Jim, don't know the exact year , but yes, NHRA wanted the Sting Rays out of M/P, so they changed the wheelbase rule. A few guy, like Larry Kopp, built older , solid axle models to run M/P classes.

Not picking here, LB, but wouldn't this be an altered without a windshield? The car is killer and don't delete it, I really want to know. I have never seen it before.

Doug, as you probably know, actually once 68 rolled around and the NHRA did away with modified sports, most of the heavily modified early Vettes ended in either gas or altered. Modified sports had allowed up to 25% setback but gas only allowed 10% so if you had 25% you ended in altered. Also I believe some chassis modifications may have landed you in altered as well for awhile. We ran a little 6" windshield on the 57 Vette we ran in B/G-will have to look at the rulebook again.

This particular car I have classified as a funny car and here is another picture of the car. 545c806b79ec92e32e69db17332555bd.jpg

Not a problem but we don't have a thread for Corvette Altereds to put it in :) I would start one but there are so few it would lie dormant for long stretches until one more was found.

SO it's a funny. I saw the body was one piece but looked to be close to stock wheel base. As I said I have not seen the car before. As I remember most of the early Corvette funnies wound up on their roof. Aero was not right for some reason. Thanks.

I wonder if the handling on those Vette funny’s was similar to what happens to production mid years up at about 140 mph? The front end gets so light, It feels like they have Mopar power steering!

No problem here, LB. Getting some good air for a MP, it WAS a '65 fuel car according to the emblems.

If you are referring to this coupe the fender emblem is configured like the '65-6 big block emblem. The '65 FI emblem was longer, narrower and did not have the flags. This car's B pillar is a kin to '66-7 with no vents which '65's had. The fender vents are '65-6. The grill is not '66. More like '65 but different. The rocker mouldings are not '66 and similar to '65. I'd guess the car started life as a '66.

Rumbleguts, I don't know what i was thinking, you are right. I saw the grille kind of looked like a '63-'64 but might be home made. I forgot the '65-6 BBs had flags. Gettin' stupider in my old age.
