Does anybody own any American classic tires? I got a set, 760/r15, for the rear but they are short. The Coker website says 29.30” on 6” wheel. But they only measure 28” on my 6” wheel. Diameter. Maybe somebody has a 8.00r15 or 8.20r15 that’s can tell me the diameter?
I think you need to make the tire on the bottom and the ground roll your car until the mark is on the bottom again mark the ground and measure between the marks divide by 3.1416 . This will give you the true roll out diameter . Not the height measurement with a low side supporting weight on the bottom .
I am considering 16” white walls, maybe Christmas? All traditional hot rods 8 see are running 16”, sometimes it looks good but it can make the rear look higher..
Yes 15's are for the street rodders and 16's for the traditionalists LOL I'm running 8.20x15 on my 32-5 window but currently building another with 7.50x16 Wish I could get mine as low in the rear as you have but I already have a big "C" section out of the rails. And there is still things I would have done different. I started with vertical coil overs but that sat the car really high. When I angled them, the car dropped. I still have room to go lower but my rear end isn’t wide enough to allow the body to drop in between the tires. As it is the tires hit the fender and I did rub it down to metal. My painter is going to fix it soon. I had to put rubber bump stops on the frame which prevents hitting. Luckily my ride isn’t sacrificed. When I “modeled” a wider rear end to see the body drop, I didn’t like all the spacing I had to have in between the body and tire to prevent the body from hitting the tire. I also didn’t like how much I would have to stiffen the ride. I bought soft coil over because ride comfort is important to me. My last model a truck I did, I stiffened the ride for the above reason and it was horrible on the street, some people didn’t think so but I like a soft ride. Also a reason I got rid of the bias tires and went radial. I working on a 30 roadster which will be Z’d and spring behind axle for a aggressive drop. That I will also use coil overs and 16” tires. I haven’t documented it because of covid, I don’t wanna spend too much money till this calms down. Beside my frame guy is in Los Angeles haha
Do you have a flatter rear crossmember? I think the original 32 crossmember dips lower, which with a spring, makes the car higher?
I’m sure it’s the crossmember/spring that’s keeping the high. I have coil overs with a S10 truck rear end. Coilovers allow the drop.
You can see the c notch and the bump stop. And also the coil over bracket to the rear end, allows for more drop
That's a massive bump stop and you've got heaps of clearance between your axle and chassis. I checked my build out yesterday and with my set-up wheels which are 16" Mainline I will have the same problem as you with burning the paint off in the wheel wells. I do have a set of 16" Kelseys which have been modified to suit later Ford pattern which increased the offset by about an inch so will have to run them.
It would super fantastic if American Classics with the neat pie crust sidewalls were made in 16” . I just don't want to go to 15” Rims.
