Technical how much chop for a 30-31 coupe?

Currently working on a 31 Ford Coupe and I intend to chop it! I'm hoping I can get members to post pics of their chops and details of chop and how much chop. Lets get this thread rollin guys, thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and talent.

The 31 coupe I got from Chris Casny was chopped 4 inches and to me, it looked right on the money. Also I am 6 feet tall and there is room to sit normally. Not extra room . . . but enough room. This is a 3 pedal car, so in that case consider the bend of your legs to work the pedals. It has been my experience that if a car is uncomfortable you will avoid using it eventually. So the right chop is a combination of form and function. For those reasons, I think 4 inches is a very good place to start.

 

I think you need to keep the quarter window square, don't turn it into a rectangle. I believe the magic number is 4".

Have your seat in place that you are going to use and sit in the car ... See how much headroom you have.... I like a 4 inch chop.... But it depends on how tall you are ... I think a 5 1/2 inch chop is killer ...

 

Do birds ever use those houses?

my project is chopped 2 inched

 

My son's '31. 4" chop, 4" channel. Rod Factory Stage 3 Model A frame. BICHIN' firewall, not recessed. Glide seat mounted directly on the floor...no room for the adjuster mechanism.....seat is all the way back to the rear of the cab....see my avatar. Barely room for the clutch, brake and gas pedals.

 

4" without fenders...2.5 to 3 with fenders

No.. My wife buys them for me to put up since I have nothing to do but work on old cars....I didn't know if its comfortable because I put sort of a high price "for sale" sign on it a week after I finished it and it sold...

 

Now, why didn't I think of that....

Beautiful car. The prettiest Model A I have ever seen. The best drivable chop for me was 4 inches. More aggressive may be cooler but less useable.

4" has always been considered the maximum for a street driven traditional hotrod. Land speed racers get crazier
