Taking the day off. Watching 'Every Which Way You Can', there's a scene where Eastwood carries this engine over and sets it on the bench, without breaking a sweat. That's gotta be 400lbs. I'm thinking, whatever it is. So maybe it's plastic, but who makes a plastic inline 6? Or maybe it's empty, but I think I see the crank. Points for realism on the toolbox though.

    Something strange, in the neighborhood..

  2. That is a small Ford six. 144,170, or 200. Great movie!

  3. Took the old girl out for a drive today. The old car drives nicely for being 72 years old and almost all original. Started to rain, vacuum wipers suck donkey dildos so I came home. Still it was good to cruise a little bit. Me in my 48 coupe.JPG

Polished some nerf bars I had cut out of 3/8 aluminum and installed them on my pickup. 20200427_152144-1.jpg 20200505_153223-1.jpg

I just put a fresh motor on my drill press. I figure that 73-years is a good run, for the first motor.

Now, I am working on a Winters quick change center section.

  7. Finally work on this 1964 C200 that a newly married couple bought new as their first purchase and only transportation. Hope to have it back to them for one last ride together. 20200517_161221.jpg 20200517_161221.jpg

Not just today, for the last three days I've been busy. I installed the best looking aftermarket valve covers in the history of the world with my son on Friday and learned a not inexpensive but valuable lesson. I had to remove a couple of plug wires from the cap to get the valve covers on and forgot to put them back. Started the car to check for leaks, heard and felt the miss and before I could turn the key off it shut off on it's own. Apparently running Pertronix II with a couple of plug wires pulled out of the cap will burn up your module right now. New module on order, ships tomorrow. Yesterday my Brother-in-Law and I drove around looking at .30 over 350 Chevy blocks for an off topic car he's building that had a crack in the left side of the block after the machine shop said they checked for cracks. The 4th engine we looked at looked good, the seller said he put it together and it ran for about 5 minutes and then seized up with a bent rod on number 7. The block looked good and still had the crank and the other 7 pistons in it. We got back to the shop and started looking and he had assembled the rods in the wrong holes, with some of them backwards. The end cap on the rod that bent hit the crank and that was all she wrote. Today I only spent 5 hours on the 45 minute job of replacing the rubber fuel line from the pump to the carb with steel line, installed a catch can I've had sitting on the shelf for a year and a half, cleaned up some sketchy wires under the hood, and practiced my shitty pinstriping for the first time in a couple of years. I'd be so pissed if I had to do that

Finished up with the removal of the half vinyl top on my o/t Mercury. Swore I would never do another. Better part of four days labor to get the glue off. A fifty dollar can of stripper, which barely affected the glue, pretty much wasted. Anyway, the glue is gone, got the filler on where it was needed (no rust, just unfinished body work), got primer and topcoat to do next. God how I hate vinyl tops.

Not only did I have to trim the fins, If you look at the master cylinder its at an angle from the 1/8inch shims I had to put on the inner bolts. I've got a 1/4 inch of clearance and the booster hides it pretty good.

Finally got around to cutting a new panel that goes behind the back seat in my 47 chevy. The previous owner made swiss cheese out of the old one for all his speakers. It rattled like a sob. Got the new one in and am very happy now. When I hit bumpy roads, it doesn't sound like a dumpster being drug across 6 sets of railroad tracks.

Due to overwhelming demand (thanks, both of you), I now have the shiny TTs all around. Even hit 'em with Flitz while they were in the air. Reserving the right to spray the spokes grey later on tho.

Also rattle canned the rocker panels flat black, now disappeared in the photo.

I don't have to make 3 point turns. :) One fun thing, aside from the occasional wheelie, is how quickly it turns. Wheelbase is 75". It really is a go cart. Front suspension is smooth, rear has only about 3" of travel so it's a little choppy on rough roads, not all that bad. Highway is OK, doesn't dart or drift, I put a lot of effort into bump steer and alignment, but interior room is of course limited for extended travel. I use it for errands around town mostly, that's a total gas.

So I'm still pimping my ride.. Put a sticker that came with my cam in the back window, painted the caps on the Americanese TTs (not sure where they are made, got 'em used), replaced the hex nut the overflow tank.. My intent on painting it white was to come up with a red white & blue motif (being an American Bantam after all), tried some pinstripes but nothing I care for so far. I photoshopped some red scallops but the wife nixed that.

Somebody stop me! I think I saw some prism tape on the shelf. Been fun but I better back away for awhile..

You could take this photo today with the crowd on the other side, the masks won't show that way.

I just scored a real dual-quad pair of Carter AFBs!

    No shiny Edelbrock stuff here.

Just one 4760, and one 4762.

All for less than the price of one Edelbrock.

I will need to go through them, but that's easy stuff. IMG_20200519_120431.jpeg IMG_20200519_121009.jpeg

Got these for a fin a few years ago at a recycle yard. Electrical pole tops. Been carving on them every now and again, some today. Gone from hideously big to almost OK. I have the ubiquitous frog's mouths but I hate to toss these until I'm sure they won't do.

Spent the last few days cutting and buffing various pieces of my ‘31 Model A project. Giddyup.
