I posted in a separate thread about an issue I had with poor quality lug nuts.

Trying to remove my wheels for brake adjustment I encountered a seized and galled lug nut on the driver’s rear wheel that cratered it’s threads when it was torqued at the inspection.

It wasn’t coming off no matter what.
Getting it off destroyed the nut and stud.

The studs for my winters quick change aren’t available anywhere in Canada so an order was placed to Speedway and a full set of genuine Winters studs showed up by courier 3 days later

Then I went to the local self serve wrecking yard a got a set of OEM lug nuts off some Crown Victorias.

They are much better quality thread and fit than the Chinese crap I had.

During the brake adjustment I looked at a problem I’ve had with my rear brakes that existed since they arrived with my quick change.

They’re new 11” loaded drum brakes from Currie.

I couldn’t seem to get the self adjuster arm for the left side (drivers side) to contact the Star wheel so that it would work properly.
The right side was fine and worked well.

Finally I decided that somehow it didn’t look right, it looked poorly stamped and deformed and dimensionally wrong.

I picked up a Raybestos self adjuster repair kit and installed it. Perfect

Comparing the new piece to the one that came with the left brake it was obviously a manufacturer defect. But it’s fixed and only cost me $20 :D

Brakes are adjusted now and should be much better.

Since it’s going to be raining for the rest of the week I’ll clean up the garage and then I’ll have the music on and the buffing and polishing stuff will get well used getting after the paint that I haven’t got to yet

Spent the last 2 rainy days in the garage with the heat on and the tunes too.

Had the rear of the RPU up on the jack stands and found that I had to put the front on 6” blocks to level the carbs because fuel was seeping out of the front carb.

Up on the blocks leveled out and it stopped.

Went through the brake adjustment front and rear and then started buffing and polishing paint front to back.

3000 grit and 5000 grit Trizact pads and then the 3 stages of 3M Trizact polishing compounds.

I cut through the paint in 3 spots on edges
because of the single stage paint I was able to mix a little bit and touch it up and then gently blend it in and then polish. :)

A final coat of Mother’s Carnuba wax would finish it off.

The street sweepers have been through our neighborhood and enough of the street’s in the area are cleaned up so that tomorrow when it’s warm and sunny it will be time for a little run to test things out

Good luck with loading up your new acquisition.
We’re waiting patiently for the reveal. :D

You may not see me, I probably won’t stray far from home initially :D

  7. Thanks, I’ll start another thread on it. Apparently jumping the gun was a bad idea!

It’s a quick trip there, load the car, headed back home. Won’t see much of the city either.

Good luck on the maiden voyage.

Saw your thread back up. Thought I might've missed your maiden voyage. Nope, just in time. Good.

    Truly happy for you, Larry.

Seems sometimes as though some of the more prolific builders around here only have to fart and a hot rod pops out. Others of us might be able enough to build only one awesome car in a lifetime. And the whole hot rod dream is right there in that one car.

You guys were talking about "grinning from ear-to-ear". If I had worked as long and hard as you have to build such a nice hot rod... and FINALLY fulfilled my dream... I'd be grinning from ear-to-ear, too. And I know I tend to be a bit of a softie, but I gotta say... and I don't mind saying... that I think I'd also be experiencing some fairly deep emotions. For good reason.

    Cheering for you. [emoji2]

  10. I feel like with your attention to detail you could jump in that thing and drive it across the country!

Let’s see pictures when it’s out, looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day!

Seems kinda fitting that your hot rod is emerging at this time. It's Memorial Day weekend... when we celebrate our freedom... and the cost associated with it. The birds and blooms are emerging... new life. And of course, that we're all hoping that we too can soon emerge... to get back to normal... to be free.
I think we'll all remember when Larry got his hot rod roadster pickup on the road. [emoji5]

Thanks guys. I’m over the top happy with my adventures today.
First I plugged in my GPS speedometer sky drive antenna module ( Classic Instruments) and did the simple calibration.

After that I stuck it on the inside of the body just under the dash on the passenger side with some 3M mounting tape and when the upholstered kick panel is in place it will be hidden out of sight and protected from the weather.

Then I tightened the lug nuts and took it out for a short test drive and came back home.

Adjusted the idle and added a little more transmission fluid.

Also had to replace the connector to the brake light switch which wasn’t making good contact.

After that I headed over to the other side of the city to visit my buddy Dave.
Wanted to show him the finished car.

    He loved it.

I’m really pleased with the way it drives.
No wobble no bump steer at any speed.

The Excelcior radials are really good and it handles like it’s on rails.

We got the alignment right on judging by the way it’s handing.

The suspension front and rear work really well and the ride is better than I thought it might be.

I had it rolling along the ring road hiway heading to Dave’s place at 120 KPH.
No problem at all smooth and steady.

The quick change is loud like I knew it would be, between wind exhaust and that ear plugs
    are required for the hiway.

Overall it has come together as a great little hot rod.

I may try a set of helical gears in the quick change just to see what they’re like.

I can’t stop smiling. Put 65 kilometres on it.:)

Let's see... 120 kph is equal to about 75 mph. In a hot rod Model A Roadster pickup. Yeah... I can almost feel it.

0 to 120 kph is fun, too? [emoji16]

Sounds like you had a great first outing. Congratulations!

This has been an epic thread, thanks for taking us all along for the ride! Congratulations on a job well done. Hope it isn't too much longer till the roads are cleared enough to get it out and enjoy it.

Well done, it looks good on you. Just the right color to go with your smile.
I took my '53 on a run today too. I had to replace a stop light bulb and air up the tires. Nothing glamorous the first dump run of the season. My smile didn't compare to yours. :D

Hell yeah!! The feeling is amazing! I know a few years ago after 10 years of work on my deuce sedan when it fired and drove for the first time I had to wipe a few tears away, it had been a long haul.
