Wondering if 4" dropped axel can replace stock model A (30 or 31) axel utilizing stock wishbone , brakes, spindles, etc.
does this create any issues to function properly ?
    Thanks

  2. You'll need to use 32-34 spring perches for it to work

Even with the 32-34 perches 4 may be too much of a drop. I cannot remember, exactly, but I think -2-2.5 was what guys were using the perches for.

You can use a 32-36 axle and 32-34 perches to get a 1" or maybe 1-1/4" drop over stock. Then your brake actuators line up. Ive done it. Just remember a 4" drop axle isnt 4" more than stock. 4" is the difference between the top of the spring perch boss to the top of the kingpin boss so a one inch drop from the later axle isnt bad

  6. I did my '29 with '32-'36 axle, '32 spindles & spring perches, a reversed eye main leaf with two leafs removed. Kept the mechanical brakes, this was a very simple, bolt up modification and the only modified part was the reversed eye main leaf. Got me approx. 4.5" drop with 6.00 x 16" tires... 113.JPG

    That's the look !

  8. The brakes will probably be a major pain in the ass. You got lots of fulcrums and rods to work with. The whish bones won't care the wishbone location doesn't change, drag link will need to be addressed. The spindles will be in a different location but it won't effect their function.

I am doing the same. I bought a 4" dropped A axle and had it chromed. I already have juice brakes installed. What is going to be required on the steering arms and drag link? I am running all stock A steering now.

This is simple. You can heat/bend the steering arms, buy dropped or a hoop.

The OP is wanting to run mechanical brakes, which has a limit on axle drop.

This is how to get 4.5" drop with mechanicals.

That way it's not all in the axle drop.
