Sometimes you have to know your limitations. My projects were too many and too much. I just got my last one...the one.
Now it's liquidating time likely starting with my F1. I am truly blessed to be able to get a car like this before liquidating the others.
A build is really beyond me. It's not really about skill or expense...it was time. There was either too much or not enough.....it's more timing rather than time. I hope that makes sense.
There will be plenty to do in the care and feeding of this old girl.

You cant have them all. You cant save them all. Get a good one, one, just one good one.

Today is the first day I have driven an old one on a public road since 2007. It was Time, just Time!

  9. Very nice! I love the 51 coupes and looks like you got a great one. Reminds me a lot of my 56 that was one of the nicest old survivors I had come across too.

My feelings exactly. @F-ONE hit the nail on the head. After building a lot of rods over the years, well, I'm just worn out. Last year I traded my '32 (which I built) for my avatar '36 Ford Cabriolet. It's the first hot rod I've owned that I didn't build...but that's OK. It's a nice car and I'm making some changes, but, just like @F-ONE has explained, it will be my LAST ONE.

YES!!! A Coupe! My 'last' shoebox was a '50 Coupe, tan. Clean, original.
Started smoking, I took it into the shop where I worked. My boss said "Take the rest of the day off, Son...Snap the head off, fix it and drive to work ON TIME in the morning."
Crap. Off came the left head, a wrist pin was deep into the wall. Red (my boss) said we could get the portable machine shop truck out here, bore and sleeve it...
I chose to tow it home, and install the 331 Chrysler hemi.
Sold it for a tidy sum after. Wish I had it back...WITH flathead. Sweet car.
    Enjoy your '51. A beauty!

  14. Congrats! Nice car...

  22. After looking at your fine 51, I had to go look up the song Hot Rod Race by Arkie Shibley. Any sweet Flathead reminds me of that old song!

Great looking car! I have a '51 Club Coupe as well and just love it. At my age it's the perfect car. I know what you guys are saying about the front end. I got a good set of grille extensions and had everything rechromed and people at shows are alway commenting positively on it. I had a '51 in high school and the first thing I did was lose the windsplits. On this one, I think I paid more for a pristine set of NOS windsplits that I paid for the whole first car. A few NOS side trim pieces, Aerostar springs, a set of Coker Classic big 'n littles, and a modified Merc flathead, and I have a practical car I can take anywhere. It'll be getting an overdrive if I ever get back to Minnesota.

    You done good.

A little information; the scaring under the interior door handles is caused by the rings people wear. From the looks of your door panels, your previous owner had more and bigger rings than mine did.

I'm not a big fan of the shoeboxes except the coupes, but the dual bullet grille in the later cars looks so much better than the single centered bullet on the earlier cars. That has got to be one of the best looking coupes I've seen. Only other ones that compare was the one that HRP had and the one that Billy Gibbons chopped. A little interior work and you have definitely got a keeper there! You going to sell both the F1 and the Fairlane?

I drove the ‘51 down to the neighbors and back. She’s not quite ready for prime time just yet.
That 100hp in a shoebox is the strongest 100 hp I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy.

    No Don
The F1 was there from when my kids were little. It was good therapy through tough times.
When I was recovering from my fire service head injury. I rebuilt the carburetor and got ‘er right. I could not drive for 2 months. My brother come to see me and drove me around.
The F1 has earned that spot.
