Reath Automotive is/was a fabulous place. They had a small shop on the corner of 10th and Cherry for many years until they moved close to the Signal Hill area of Long Beach on a huge corner lot. Now, to everyone, that was the place to be. It was THE speed shop bar none. A full showroom, parts counter, a row of workplaces, machine shop, separate garages, etc.

It was a one stop shopping center for hot rods and drag racers in any cl*** or level of compe***ion. (Local or visiting racers coming out West, too) The Reath Automotive sponsorships were like gold and the top racers at Lions Dragstrip and other So Cal dragstrips had some level of support from Joe and Dellie Reath at one time or other.

It was an impressive collection of sponsored race cars that littered the whole pits area with their cool looking, fast cars. In compe***ion, usually there was a trophy winning racer, then a photo or two in the local Drag News weekly paper. Sometimes those winning racers ended up in a camshaft or manufacturer’s adverti*****t to push their products to others.

It wasn’t something that was given without thought. Joe Reath had to know you, the race car, and the parts the were used in the build, as well as the winning streak in a particular cl***. A Reath Automotive day at the drags would have packed the pits and would have given the spectators a wonderful show.

Jerry Norek’s roadster was one of the local Long Beach racers that had a Reath Automotive sponsorship. They even went as far as sharing a high powered Chrysler motor with several other Long Beach racers that just happened to be sponsored by Reath Automotive.

Jerry Norek, gas roadster from Long Beach, CA, at the NHRA Nationals, Chrysler powered. Yes, the door is decorated with a portrait of Mad Magazine's Alfred E. Neumann. The roadster was sponsored by Reath Automotive in Long Beach, and ran the aircraft carburetor setup that Reath built and later ran on the Raker's Car Club Fiat modified and the Vulcan's Car Club, Vicky drag car that has now been re-created with a 671.
