Couple of scores today. 1938 manual, 32 steering wheel that I think I'll move on to put funds towards carbs. Scored another N.O.S 38-39 horn button too. The matching headlight just arrived in the post! I've had a good day! Not a single crack in the bakelite on the 32 steering wheel!
I initially thought it was a chev when I first saw it a long time ago. I think 41-46 chev trucks ran similar. But the size and detail looks more like 32 to me.... Edit, on doing more research it is 41-46 Chev... damn!
Different key way and rivets that hold the centre. Ha, well that's probably why I didn't buy it ages ago when I first spotted it!
Installed the anti-chatter rods today and started on the rough paint blend... Sanded the guide coat that has been sitting a while as well. I want this car to stay low budget and look it's age, no plastic surgery or make up for this 88 year old lady, ha ha!
More shitty paint to come ha ha! Working through layering the paint to match the rest of the body, more wet sanding, then new born blue, and aged clear coat.
Over the weekend I picked up a couple of 35 wires and carbs with the idea I can keep my motor mocked up with carbs until I've saved enough coin to buy my new strombergs. My thoughts with the wires are to clean them up and fit them with the 16" 7.00's that I ultimately want to run on the rear of the roadster. I've had 8 wire wheels blasted over the last couple of years and I'm a bit over the $35 blasting expense per wheel, dropping and collecting them too! I decided today I'd get a container suitable to fit wheels in for a citric acid bath! Half of a $5 pickle drum will do the job nicely!
My hot rod hunting involved visiting a couple of good antique stores. Here's what I brought home. The "old monkey saddle" they had for sale was funny and interesting, ha ha... No I didn't buy it!
I know it is the camera but one of those wheels looks like some "parade" wheels that clown cars in a parade had [they waddled]...
Modern day treasure hunt today. Found a front Houdaille shock and arm which was on my list, got another pair of indicators with matching shitty paint. 32 rear view mirror I think... and other things of interest.
Ahh I wasn't too sure what model It was off.. I was thinking it would look good on an old crusty chrome 32 luggage rack I have.
Too bad ya didn't leave the top yellow and the bottom of the body black. I think that would look stellar!
buddy tried the citric acid yesterday... was blown away how well it removed light rust... yet to try it on MAINE rust...keep ya posted...
It seems it depends what type of paint is on the parts and how thick the paint is for it's effectiveness to remove the paint, but it does a hell of a job on the cheap!
