I don't know what Barris was thinking when he repainted the Dream truck.

 

They may not be as fast as the ones today, but these old dragsters had way more style. The same thing could be said, perhaps, about the women who posed with each era's machines.

All of you guys that grew up in Torrance/South Bay in the early 60’s this place was located near the Del Amo Fashion Shopping Center. (one of the only shopping centers built over a major cross street. Creating a covered drive or mini tunnel below.) We used to go to the Del Amo Fashion Center when we wanted to go to a nice “indoor” mall. It was also my mom’s favorite centers when we took her there, too. The Rambler Dealer, Al Ortale was located just up the street.

The cool looking roadster is quite wide as it fills up the normal lane width. What is it?

 

You asked so I’ll answer but the car does violate HAMB rules, it’s not traditional and it got its fame in 1967-‘68 by winning the AMBR award. It’s debatable that it is even a Roadster, more like one of those ‘60’s “show rods” built for shock value.
The Invader has twin 389 Pontiacs with 4 spd. Hydros and two Jag rear ends.
I can think of no other reason to give it the AMBR twice, other than maybe because it had two drive lines and the judges both years were under the influence of something.
