Hot Rods If you were going to build a car to run in the South East Gasser Association, what would you build?

I have been intrigued with the SEGA ever since Quain Stott started it.

I have always thought I would build a clone of my dad's 36 Ford Pickup that held a national record in C gas back in the day.

    What would you build?

LOTS of YouTube.Com videos of the group at various tracks. Me, I'd build a 56/57 Corvette, or what else, a 56 Chevrolet. I don't really care for the I-beam axles on the front of many of those cars, but an actual straight axle (aftermarke), would be fine. They also need some wheelie bars to effectively keep those cars going straight and not up. JMPO. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  6. If money were no object, it would be a 1941 Willys. Big Block Chevrolet with a blower.

    • Even though I have a big block 4 speed 55 Chevy and a sbc 52 Chevy coupe that could be made into a stick car, they would both have to be completely rebuilt from there current ot versions. I have a couple extra ot here but legal with SEGA 66 Mustang projects. I would really love to take one and build a version of the Stones Wood and Cook 1966 long nose Dark Horse 2 Mustang. But the altered wheel base would make it illegal for SEGA. They already have too many tri fives, Chevy 2's and early Corvettes to go around. But since I am way up here in Wisconsin it would always be a dream anyhow. Larry

I would run my buddy Pauls 40 Willys Pu since I built it... But would have to yank the T 400 and put a stick in it:cool:

My plan is two fold. Move somewhere in the South and finish the 55 business coupe!
    283 block
    4 inch bore
    3.48 stroke light crank
    Solid roller
    Injection
    Chrysler 4spd
    57 Pontiac rear end.

Some version of something like this....

  15. Money would be the deciding factor as to what I could afford, being that I grew up just down the road from Gene Cromer naturally I would want to simulate my childhood hero and build a 40 Willys but in all reality my second choice and most likely option would be a '52-'54 Ford coupe, I just have a soft spot for them. Need numerous changes for that to meet SEGA rules.

  17. Without a doubt. A clone of my buddy Wayne Harry's 40 Willys Pick-up with the blown 392. I missed buying it as a roller by one day when he pulled the drive train. Those were the Good Days for sure.

An Anglia, an Austin, or a Willys!
Or one of each would be the Cat's Ass too...
Powered by an injected 331 sbc, of course... :D

  20. I have always loved a 55 Chevy 2dr sedan as a gasser, but to be different, I would think a 32-34 pickup would be a different a fun drag car. Run a built 331 or a 301 small block. Something kind of like this old drag truck.

  21. Id'e build the lightest car for class rules. Weight breaks considered. As much power as possible on the wallet.
We're talking racing, correct? Anything to have the advantage, and not just a formidable body style to appease the crowd..... Now- sentimental is a different story.......
Me= Take advantage of set rules, tweak where possible, and don't bring a knife to a gun fight.
I for one would not be out there to "look at me" I'de be out there to kick ass! And that would be by any means necessary.......

I built the ladder bars, welded up the headers, and added a lower truss to the front axle on this one, after a giant wheel stand !

An injected version of this one, because I remember every detail. Or I would swap bodies on my RPU to a closed cab 29. Willys Bizio Marty a.jpg

Read the rules before you what if. No blowers. Must have fenders. Body height rules.
The most reasonable class right now is the Super Stock class.
My avatar was built to run B/Gas. No where near enough horsepower for B/Gas.
The Super Stock class has an equalizer. The spec 7 inch tire. You can make 800hp but if it won't hook on those little tires you won't win.
Early Nova's and Falcons are very popular. Anglia's have been tried in A/Gas and are hard to make consistent. Might be good in B or C with a little motor and more weight.
The early Corvettes have won championship's in A and B. C/Gas has a lot of high winding little small blocks. Stack injection gets you a nice weight break. Iron heads gives you another 50 lbs.

  27. Simple... Something that is all go and not much show. It wouldn't break the rules, but it would be bending them till they wished they were broke. And above all, it would be simple to maintain, and very easy to drive.

'63 Tempest with 195 in H/Gas. Stock is 2800# so lose 650# to get to race weight and change to conventional 4 speed and rear. Butler has bellhousing adapter.

  29. I must amend my previous statements, thanks Southcross, no blower, no big block, it would still be a 1941 Willys, 327 small block Chevrolet, Hillborn injected. SEGA is way cool, I just haven’t read any rules.
