I think a fully fendered early A coupe would be perfect for you and Barb to cruise around Ct on those not so perfect days.

  14. Well I guess I can tell the story now! The Coleman Coupe was sold to a HAMB member and is back in Colorado, where the car was built by Don Coleman many years back. I have owned the 32 since the summer of 2013. In that time I completely rebuilt just about every mechanical part of the coupe at least once. Anyway, the new owner wanted to keep his ownership a secret until he got it home and showed up at an event in Colorado. So last night I get a late call from Neal East who purchased the car from Don and drove it for some five or six years. Neal tells me he just had a ride in the 32 and how great it was to see it after all these years. I feel like I kept the original build integrity in place while improving it's overall performance. Neal said the car ran and rode much better than when he had it. He also said how much excitement it caused when it showed up at a run. So again I feel like the circle has been completed and the Coleman Coupe will live on where it should be. One of my last photos of the 32. IMG_6640.JPG

What a great story...but I'm afraid if "THE" Neal East called me, I'd either be giggling like a little girl...or wouldn't be able to speak at all.

I've had the picture "Cooling Off" of the Coleman coupe for years hanging in my den. You did it justice and had a great time with it. Wish I could have stepped up but need to thin out before I do anything. That car really had the look. Like you said just enjoy the roadster. John

  19. No need to giggle. Neal and I have talked many times since I owned the Coleman car. He is just a regular great guy. He certainly gets it. Having known Neal was another perk to owning the coupe.

I always like to hear about these cars going back to former owner stories, I'm sure Neal will enjoy it. Way before there was an internet Neal East was editor of Old Car Illustrated magazine back in the 1970's. It covered the same type of cars and some of the people here on the HAMB. If you get the chance to pick up some old issues, do so. Bob DSCF9436.JPG

I'll be starting my '32 5W one of these days and the Coleman coupe will be part of my inspiration. Could you tell the tire sizes that are on it?

It must have been mighty hard to part with that one. To me that’s a “not ‘til they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel” car.

  25. Neal did not buy the coupe. Another guy bought it that lives in the area. Neal just had a ride in it.

  26. 7:50 x16 rear and 6:00 x16 front. Had to go with the 6:00’s up front to get the same wide white wall.

Neil called about a week ago and while we were talking I mentioned that it was funny that all his old cars are still around,
He mentioned the Coleman coupe and thought it would be nice to drive it again.
It was hard to say nothing.
He called again Sunday night after seeing the car on Saturday and to say that he is happy the car is back in Colorado is an understatement.
He was also ribbing me about not telling him about the car being back.
Thanks for the Hospitality when Jason and I came to look at the car.
Buying the car was a smart move on Jason,s part
