Hot Rods Firewall I.D. - Is this a '32 or '33 Ford Pickup?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by T-Time re-registered, Jul 21, 2020.

  1. Is this a bolt-on firewall, making this a '32 Pickup cab? Can you tell from the photo? Seller says "yes" but I'd like some confirmation before I drive four hours to get it. Thanks! 1932 truck firewall.jpg

That doesn't look like a `32 pickup firewall, since I thought they were the same as a `32 car.
And that is not the same as a `32 car firewall.

33-34 Ford pickup, a better photo would confirm it. Bob

This is an "early" `32 p***enger car firewall, and I thought the pickup was the same. They are not bolted onto the cowl at all, ( except at the rear hood hinge bracket) but rather they are held on by two lower clamp brackets, on the cowl sides, drawn down around the firewall with a rubber gasket in between early `32 firewall.JPG

A super-rusty 34 cab on a Model A frame. I might drive across town for it, but never four hours away. Worth about $150.

  9. I know that you know what your are talking about, alchemy, but it looks like it has the right cab ribs on the back to be a '32 or '33. It is really hard for me to make out from those bad pics, though. Are you sure? (Yes, it is on a Model A frame.) Agree that if it is a '33 or '34 it is not worth the drive.

Looks 33/34 by the picture posted by The37Kid. The accent line, throttle set up and the hole for what might have been a choke?

  11. The '33 is supposedly exactly the same as the '32 firewall, other than how it is attached. There were at least two different firewalls used in '34. So maybe it is a '34.

  15. Just as an FYI, I'm not new to the HAMB. I've been here from almost the start. (Search on name T-Time.) Couldn't get in, so I had to re-register with a new name.

    Thanks for everyone's input!

If the firewall is in the cab you have posted the truck is a '33. HRP

  18. Anthony Myrick, I'm from the same state you are, and yes it is. It is the best condition '32-34 cab I have found in the last ten years anywhere near here. But still, I'd only buy in this condition if it was a '32.

The 32 & 33 share the same basic cab, the belt line around the back of the cabs are identical, the firewall in the 32 bolts in place and looks nothing like the 33 & 34 which are welded in place. HRP

'32 cab, the back of a '33 cab looks identical.

listed at $1500 ouch! but at one time the shop I was at was paying $750-1500 for just a firewall
that cab you posted is a firewall and rear cab styline (34 cab) away from appearing as a 32

a 33 firewall is not the same as a 32, it is the same as a 34 however, xiix & hrp have it right.

It's a '34 cab for sure , '33's didn't have the fat upper belt line across the back panel .
    It's definitely not a '32 , they used the '32 p***enger car firewall .

I thought I saw the thick upper rib on the back in his rearend shot. That's why I thought it was a 34. Otherwise, it could be a 33. But I'm sticking by my price. Sure your prices may vary, down there in rustbelt Alabama. (I'm joking. I bet it doesn't get much rustier than here in Iowa.)

The cab doesn't appear to have the extra wide bead.

Pete, the 34 has the extra wide belt around the back of the cab. HRP

    This is a 34 cab.

HRP the picture of the back of the cab is so poor it is hard to see the large belt line. If you enlarge the side view you can see the bead on the inside of the cab.

If you want a 1932 CAB, and have a 1933 what can be saved from the cowl top and sides? Same pieces or totally different? Bob

You can turn a 33 cab into a 32 easily. Redrill a few holes in the subframe to match the 32 frame. Then remove the 33 firewall, buy a repro 32 inner cowl band and the cowl band feet, install them, and bolt the thing down. Viola'

Henry Dana started off with a '34 cab and did extensive work removing the extra wide belt line across the back and drilling out the 34 firewall and adding the 32 firewall, a lot of work but it turned out flawless. HRP

Regardless of 33-34, that pic of the left A pillar and door makes it look pretty grim, imo.
    P***.
