thanks, not sure what they were on originally I've had them wrapped in a rag in an old coffee can for more than forty years..
Thought I'd add a simple sketch showing wiring schematic. I couldn't find factory diagram for the Autolamp 8900 8906 switch but did find some with similar wire colors for the six wire switches. Two consistent colors being the black and yellow wires, from there it was a best guess trial and error situation. Simple enough.
With all my hot rod attention going to the '23 the '27 has been sitting idle for months. Finally fired it up and drove it around the block. Funny climbing in the driver side and stretching my legs out, very different than the '23. Also very different to drive, the clutch is a little softer and the LaSalle shifts a little slower than the Buick transmission. Smaller displacement and lower gears are quite different too. I didn't realize how much more torque the 371 in the '23 has, even with the 3.42 gears it pulls away much more aggressively. Even forgot to flip the magneto kill switch for a second at start up. But she fired right up and scooted around just as nimble as ever.
Enjoyed your builds, both nice. Been checking in now an then, Paul. Real close to how I like it also. Was hoping for shiny paint at some point, but that's me. I would of dropped a note long ago, didn't think ya needed with things coming along so well. Only thing, that could help a little some how,but know you saw this; ;https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-sew-at-home-upholsrety-hot-rod.604077/
Thanks man, Yes I always envisioned all my cars shiny with chrome, paint and upholstery.. somehow that hasn't happened yet. Short attention span, limited funds, or whatever, the test and tune shake down seems to be as far as they get, too much fun driving them to tear them all back down again to finish. Maybe now I have two again I can drive one and finish the other.. my m.o. is more likely I'll end up selling one unfinished.. Oh well it's all for fun. Thanks for the link, I'll have to go back and reread it, good stuff!
So between the two do you prefer the big Buick trans or the Lasalle? Just curious what your opinion is since I have both for future projects. Also I was trying to look back thru the 27 thread but wasn't finding the specs for that engine. Was it a 303?
I like both transmissions but if I had to choose only one... I can't. It's a '56 324 I'll try to find a link edit: I see very little description in this thread but here is a link to when Racefab, (FWilliams now) dropped it off 11 years ago! post #189
The transmission in the '27 here is a '37 LaSalle I converted to closed drive. The transmission in the '23, as shown in it's build thread, is a '37 Roadmaster I converted to open drive.
Ah the holy grail!...looked for one forever gave up looking for one finally and got an adaptor for a Ford trans.
thanks all for following along with me, my part now is done as the car is now under new ownership. we loaded it up this morning. thank you Jeff, I hope it gets the attention it deserves and you get as much fun out of it as I did.
