This car intrigues me. The photo appeared on the HAMB, posted by the owner's son, identifying the date as 1951 in Santa Ana, and noting that the car had a top-mounted blower on its flathead. That looks like an early Y-manifold of the kind that Weiand once made. It is a chopped '36 coupe with a '40 Ford deluxe hood, and innovative front sheet metal work. Does anyone recognize it? (FB post by David Sorenson)

Look at the hood... Very long for a Ford coupe? Maybe more adequate for a Lincoln?

@ratamahata, that wild 36 is way over the top and a slam dunk for the theme of the Thread.... @j hansen additional thanks for pulling those details out of the depths of Hamb...I'm looking at the unusual scoop at the front and thinking is there one of those front mounted superchargers and wondering if its an intake...Rat already noted that it may have a Blower on top of the engine noting the high stepping Y 2 into 1...

Only 4 posts for @flathead60...Lets hope he chimes in and shares some more details as this is one unusual Hotrod...and any more pics and stories he might have to share...

I always say many Hambers have really cool stuff to share...To all you Hambers that have had family, friends or otherwise there is no better place to share these rarities that molded the Hotrod/Custom movement...Great stuff Hambers...​

That must be what it is as it looks off the the side of the center of the hood which rules out a grille which I initially thought...​

Otto Ryssman's Crosley fuel coupe, early days at Santa Ana. Otto was an accomplished hot rodder who raced at both the lakes and the drags. He was an innovator who understood the meaning of weight reduction, so while other competitors were mostly using Ford bodies, Otto went to the lighter Crosley. Performance mattered to Otto more than looks, so the body damage on this car was never fixed. It looked crude but it won. Otto went on to run a dragster, first with flathead, and later, Chrysler power. Unfortunately the Chrysler dragster blew a clutch at Santa Ana, with the fragments killing a spectator who was sitting on one of the logs bordering the drag strip (Kent Lentz witnessed the carnage). Otto wound up in court and after a lot of legal expenses, he left hot rodding. This photo is from the American Hot Rod Foundation, where I go daily for some of the best hot rod information out there. ...I believe those are cycle tires up front which were used a fair bit back in the good Ole days and the Vented side hood panels work well on the Model A's and B's...

I can't see how it would have both a front-mounted blower and top-mounted carbs.
More likely is the car has a Graham supercharger with a slingshot adapter, and that weird front sheetmetal was a creative way to fill the hole created by removing the stock grille without having to form compound curves.

 

...these windshields look great on many roadsters but there is some intense metal work to pull it off and heck might as well join the tank to the body while your at it eh!...and check out the hinges...awesome work...

...Hamber @axle's Deuce sporting unusual hood sides...I don't remember them but perhaps they came with the original package when he bought it...I'm not sure if he still owns it or not and I actually thought it was another Hotrod...

I don't think that half rounded opening is centered to the hood...perhaps that was an intake for air for something under the hood before the carbs were added on top of the engine...

 

Is this NZ?...They are pretty adventurous in HotRod/Custom much as The East and West Coast is... @Kiwi Kev's ongoing thread on NZ has I suspect some of the best of what is a connected movement...Wherever the Big How Many was there Then...in the Hamb Era went Hotrod/Custom Happened...Good Times...

The is it a 38 and 9 Truck Grilles are a nice edition to a Hotrod...I think that Bannister Bros A is a priceless work of Art that did the Dry Lakes at 140 or so ...I think...I think it needs a drop in the front and perhaps a front axle reposition but it is a Fat to Fat so they really could compliment each other
