Damn...that is a really sad story Mike...that crushes my heart to read this.

People also lose lifes historical collections to other fates but this is your story and I'm sure it actually is more common than we imagine.

Marriage can be a raw deal when ending. Thanks for being candid...I'm sure it still hurts inside. I never even saw them and I miss them.

Here’s a rare 32 ford sports coupe

 

Just highlighting a feature differentiating the Sport Coupe from the Cabriolet...the door window frame...

Inside has quarter upper door frame going up and across albeit this is chopped so the upper section is modded somewhat...

My '29 a work in progress.
I cant say that buying a Sports Coupe was my first choice. But I'd been off the hot rod 'ladder' for sometime and had very little cash to get started again. The body came up at a good price and I thought at least this is 'something' to get me back in the game.
But how to make it cool ?....I thought about the 'coupester' idea for a bit, but then no. Then the idea of a folding top but thought it looked a little odd with the door tops just hanging out. Ended up with a 6" chop and slanted rear roof and I think that has given it a look of its own that I can now live with.

 

Sports coupes look good with the top up, just not a fan of the top down.... But I'm not a roadster guy either but love some of the well done roadsters and RPU that I have seen. Guess I am not a roadster guy due to the lack of room for my big tall ass.

 

Stubbs you actually highlighted a feature of the Sport Coupe...they are not convertibles the top is factory fixed...they are many times modded that way however...

The Cabriolet is a form of Convertible...and I believe lacks the window framing the Sport Coupe has...

Ignorant question; what’s the difference between just a 29 Model A and the Sports Coupe? Like this is a 29 A I believe. lo

@zz29...its just a Model/ Style of Model A that was offered with features unique to the name and I believe was offered for all Model A years of production.

It it a convertible lookalike as the top was fixed hence the reference poor mans roadster......I often say it was a form of vinyl top like on cars of the 60s 70s...fake convertibles...a lot of people liked the look of a roadster but didn't care for top down so the carmakers delivered...

 

my old sport coupe turned Roadster on the way to Bonneville years ago.sold it to someone in new York .if anybody has seen it let me know

 

Model A is the general term for all 1928 - 1931 Ford's, they are all Model A's, but there were sub-models within the Model A line, i.e. Coupe, Sedan (tudor & fordor), Roadster, Roadster pickup, closed cab Pickup, and there were also Cabriolet's and Sport Coupes (and more). Roadster's did not have any windows or window frames, the top of the doors is closed off, and the windshield frames was not part of the cowl, there were stanchions that bolted on to the cowl to mount the windshield. Roadsters also had a foldable cloth top. Cabriolets had a door windows, and the leading edge of the window frame, but there was no top or trailing edge to the window frame, those features were contained in a foldable or retractable top. The Sport Coupe had a cloth top that looked like the Cabriolet top, but it was not foldable, and the doors had full window frames. The Sport Coupe had a visor, the Cabriolet did not.

Here's a Sport Coupe, note the full window frame and the visor. The top looks like it is retractable, it isn't:

Here is a Cabriolet, note the lack of a visor and the window frame only has the leading edge, and the windshield frame is part of the cowl:

And then here is a roadster, the windshield frame is bolted to the cowl, and no side windows at all, the top of the doors is closed with no channel for the glass:

I've got one over here in the UK, I love the fact that it's different and I definitely can't afford a roadster. Poor is a relative term

Read above that the sport coupe was considered a poor man's roadster...
but a closer look shows it is a poor man's cabriolet...
landeau bars hinge on a cabbie... are one piece on the sportie… my $0.02.

 

OOps This is the painted version that I mentioned 2 yrs ago. Working on the top, now "done". A coupster to be sure, but it was all that was available back when. Still looking for a set of roached out doors with good window frames to finish out the doors.

 

Holy Canoles this one rules.

My sportcoupe turned roadster , i love the extra legroom.

 

think I have got [3] '30 tudor doors… think they are 29.25" at the beltline...
memory says the '30-'31 tudor, truck door tops are the same as '28-'29 coupe and tudor...
I make coupester stuff... will cut the tops off for $100 each and the ride... pm for pix...

Nothing wrong w a traditional sport coupe. Sometimes it’s all we can afford compared to these roadsters...

 

That's an interesting Duvall ish windscreen. I'm playing with the idea of trying to make one. A crazy idea im trying to fight back... I did recently purchase a pair of mounts that integrated into a Duvall type windscreen. My thought was to design one from that as a starting point. Staring at a rough 30-31 SC cowl now reading this thread trying to decide if I should go for it or not.
