This is my first thread in a while. A very long while. So some back story is in order. I started this project more than 10 years ago with the cast offs from someone else's 1940 sloper project. I got a gutted 39 body that had a 38 cowl swapped on. A previous restorer had done this at some point, for some reason. It came with 38 Deluxe front sheet metal and rear fenders and really bad running boards. The body also had a trunk lid. For doors, a pair of 1940 versions. One was okay, the other very not okay, but they were doors. The frame was also bare. I set about chopping it, rebuilt the complete tailpan ( which had previously had rust 'restored' with tar paper and pink filler), recessed the firewall, modified the frame centre and installed a SBF and C4. My family and I moved state, built a house, we put the kids through school, spent a LOT of time at their sports...all that life stuff. In the mean time the sloper sat. Sometimes I was frustrated, sometimes sick of the sight of it. But eventually the path cleared and I was able to get back into it. And so here we are. After nearly 7 years of very little other than filling the cowl vent I finally bit the bullet and restarted the sloper project. It was almost like reintroducing myself to it. Square one again:

Something satisfying about resuscitating a project, looking back, reviewing, and hopefully seeing that the earlier decisions are still valid. Bravo on the outta the box thinking. Subscribed mate!

Good point! Generally the earlier decisions are okay but the execution would be better if I was doing them today.

Like the lines on this car, great work. And while I know that they “belong” on this style of car, but I would like to see a skirtless version.
The person I bought this from had three. He was building a 40 and kept all the good parts (basically 2 cars worth,) I got the scraps. But hey, at least I got it! A lot of slopers died at the speedway, back when, so they are in short supply. I'm lucky I got any doors at all with my scrap pile because they are obviously longer than Fordor versions but are also a bit over 1/2 inch more than Tudor ones. So no easy alternatives. But that is a story that will unfold in due course.
Sexy sloper. Keep the skirts, they belong on it. I understand the time spent on kids sports. I did that, too. Wouldn't change that at all, but it stopped almost all garage work for me for quite a while. Good luck, thanks for posting.

Looking great , I really like the b pillar on your sloper ,to me that's the only thing on a original that didn't seem perfect , mind you l love my stock sloper was driving it over the last few days as my f1 broke a axle .looking forward to more pics
I had a friend in Wagga Wagga that had 40 ford sloper flat packed under his house, I tried for years to get it but he finally sold it to a mate,,,, oh well and with the scrap drives 10-12 years a lot of good tin got shipped to China. I would take a scrap one in a heart beat Keep up the good work!!
Go Man! you're on to something with this car, 3 hrs. a day 3 days a week and in a few short months you'll be riddin' around in style.
