@themoose I love ya but an LT-1 scoop belongs only on an LT-1 Vette....and then only on a plastic fantastic internet-tastic site...amatic.
If you really feel that you must install a hood scoop, the Ford heavy duty truck scoop is the only way to go on a car like yours...
The most traditional alteration to the '57 Ranchero hood is to add louvers. Back in the day a friend had a '58 that he retrofitted with a '57 hood that was louvered. I thought it was perfect back then, and if I ever get my hands on a '57 or '58 I'm going to do the same. A mailbox on the hood is as out of place as a turd in a punch bowl, in my opinion; not only is it unsanitary, it changes the appeal of the restrained styling that went into it.
What build style are you going with? Research that style ( hopefully from original builds) and then decide!
As for style, I don't know yet. I'm trying to get that "a ha" moment. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Otto, check out “George Klass Remembers”. Set aside plenty of time if you go there, I still haven’t seen it All!
None of the scoops mentioned are going to work with a tunnel ram, except the one fabricated out of cardboard. I doubt the Boss 429 scoop would even be tall enough. If it were mine I wouldn't even use a scoop. Whack a big hole in the hood and use a couple velocity stacks or a Cobra style 2-4 air cleaner setup.
I know that this may not be the easiest thing to do...but try to find a second hood..! Then just cut a hole in the second hood to clear everything. Forget the scoop altogether (rain, what rain). Mike
I agree with Mike , if it's got a tunnel ram I want to see the tunnel ram! Kinda like covering up some nice cleavage with a sweater.......just my thoughts
I was thinking along this same path. There is a local folk selling parts and believes he might have a 58 hood and let me know. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My personal choice with a tunnel ram engine would be a Hilborn type scoop on the carbs, or a pair of air cleaners, or velocity stacks. None of those scoops looks good on that clean '57 hood.
That body style needs the lowest profile hood scoop that will work for you. I agree, the TBird or a GTO scoop.
A few things I recall from reading HRM in the 70’s, that cowl hoods actually made cars faster that a scoop did, had to do with the low pressure (as I recall) area allowing the carb to bring in more air. Anyways, if you go with a hole in the hood, do it classy, make something that has like a ridge around it, like a belt line so to speak. Just a hole looks quick and dirty when I see one in a hood Just my thoughts Also, there is a Ford SD scoop in the classifieds here as well if that’s your thinking
I did not post a reply until I mulled this over properly, and this is my opinion only. Lose the tunnel ram and have no scoop. I love a good tunnel rammed car, but in your case, I think form should outweigh function. And let's be honest here, how many street cars really run a tunnel ram for the performance gain?
