As good 2drs with inflated prices are being grabbed up right and left and wagons gaining popularity, is the new craze going to be the 4dr? Lets here the opinion.

  2. I don't think four doors will ever be a craze since they just don't have the styling of a two door. Except for possibly the 30's cars. Many of us considered four doors to be a family car when we were growing up. Not too cool.

I really dont like four doors either but in my case it was all I could afford, so here it it with the back doors welded shut and a good chop and drop.. I like the way its coming along even tho my doors are a lil short...

  4. I don't tink they will ever hit "craze" status but with prices on everything else climbing, & the supply of everything else diminishing, I think you'll see more Fordors than in the past.

I think the proportions on many four doors were better than on the two doors from the same year.

This 33 year-old, former Deuce coupe owning, father of two is dying for a family-sized version of that coupe.

A roadster, coupe, or even Tudor doesn't fill my needs.

I don't know if I'd call it a craze, but I think they're going to become more and more acceptable as rod material.

But wagons are concidered "COOL" and they are more than family sedans. Also is there more of a place for 4dr Hardtops than other?

I like very few more doors but the list seems to be getting bigger. My most recent find is a 1960 buick invicta 4 door hardtop I saw on craigslist. never seen one before.

According to some auction site I came across (don't remember who) they claimed the top cars were #1-converts #2-two door hardtops #3-four door hardtops #4-two door sedans ect.....

I thought it was odd. I'd probably prefer a 2 door post to a 4 door hardtop, but it could depend on the car. I'm an old school two door only guy, all ever had.

  9. are they the newest craze?well i'll be,i knew i was a trendsetter:D

Only if they have Von Dutch Original's mud flaps and rhinestones on the "dubs".

    Otherwise, NO.

How does "craze" have anything to do with "tradition"?

  11. I think possible exceptions to the 2 door rule would Hardtops and fastbacks

  12. Although even a 4 door is no longer a cheap investment every time- they are more available......
Also the verdict is this- If a guy can't afford a coupe -roadster or sedan- he will buy the old car his available dollar allows.
this is not a silly move either.
I for one am painfully aware of the ever increasing value of even 4 doors lately....
I personally think the guy who was smart enough to ignore the advice of most of us,going ahead, buying the 4 door ,just a few years back is really setting pretty now!!

If I have to choose between a 4 door pre 53 and an new car for my daily driver, I'll go with the classic and take the shit for it being a 4 door. How come you never hear someone tell the guy with the 4 door 50's model sedan "at least it's not a neon"?

I got this car for just about nothing. A two door would have cost in this condition about 10 times that.

When I was young most hot rodders built 2 door versions of cars as they were readialy available and always lighter than there 4 door counterpart. It was a rare event for a 4 door anything other than a push vechicle to run at Fremont dragstrip. At times my dad and his friends would build up a 4 door that was used more for street racing as a "sleeper". I have always perfered 2 door versions of most vehicles, but have to admit something is going on. I'm not sure if you would call it a craze but we have a '63 4dr Chevy, a '37 4dr Buick, a '56 4dr Ford, a '50 4dr Dodge, and a '53 Desoto under construction at my shop. All of them have or will have a lot of motor in them. What I think has come back is the "sleeper".

I've seen radical wings on imports but is this the new craze?!?

  22. Depends on geography. Here in New Zealand, only four doors were imported during the 50s and 60s. I think the same applies to Australia too. Consequently the four doors are much more accepted here. It's only in the last few years that guys like Duane Jones have been shipping two doors to NZ, so the balance is being rectified, but barn finds are likely to be four doors.

I guess I'm just not gay enough to care if everyone "approves" of my car.

So you are seeing a lot more good 4drs out threre. Also "whats in" is deturmined by what was affordable to that generation. I'm 29 and love most 58-64s and this is what I can afford.

I'm not either. They can go to hell if they don't like it. But I like to ponder what is up and coming. I sure hope it is 4drs and not hondas.

I've seen more newly constructed Deuce Fordors in the last 18 months than in the preceding 50 years. Admittedly, Deuces are a unique situation.

4-door hardtops aren't likely to become red-hot, simply because there aren't many of them. They may have been a significant proportion of, say, Buick and Cadillac production, but Fords and Chevys are downright scarce. As I'm writing this, I realize that I'm really talking about the mid-'50s. '56 Ford Fairlane 4-door hardtops were pretty nice-looking cars, but they are extremely rare any more.

i wouldnt necessarily call it a craze, but also agree to say more accepted. its the drive to put old tin back on the road. they both usually are in different classes of their own, cept some models that i dont care how many doors it has, its just plain cool. anyone adding the right touches can draw just as much attention at cruise night with a 4 door. me, i dont think i coulda touched a 57 chev for 500 bucks if it was a 2 door hard top. would i like a 2 door, hell yea, they got appeal, but with a growing family, the 4 door seems to be growing on me too. a 59 buick or 49 merc anything seems to look good most times w/o a door count. was i gonna nose bleed the front end and radius the rear wheels on my 4 door? not without removing a few hunks of metal. sure people can pull that off with a 4 door. just didnt seem right to me on my particular ride.

Too bad, because it's easier to fit more men in your four door.

Wagons don't count as 4-doors. Wagons are what 4-doors aspire to be.

4-doors are lame. Weld them up, or chop them off, if that's all you have.
