    Hi everyone:

As long as I've had my '53, the driver's side of the front bench seat is too far reclined. Hasn't gotten worse, but now by back is starting to hurt after being hunched over everywhere I go. Anyone else have this problem with their seat? Is there a missing bump stop somewhere or would the frame be bent somehow? Haven't taken it out to inspect, but was curious if anyone could point me in the right direction to fix this thing.. thanks!

On my '55 Merc there is a rod that attaches through the center pivot point with a cotter pin. Yours may be bent or the hole in the pivot point could be wallered out. The seat backs are pretty easy to remove, you just need to remove the bottom trim to get to the outside pivot point. Or you could just shim the seat back at the center pivot.

There should be a round rubber bumper on the bottom of the seat back about 4 inches inboard of the outer hinge

Ahh I think the bumper is the issue. I believe this is it. https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_mercury_late/front-seat-back-stops-plastic-ford-and-mercury.html

The one in my car is black, but that color shouldn't matter..
