That's one thing I'll never get over. The ridicule was so real and so intense in my youth for driving an old womans car that I just can't bring myself to drive a 4dr hot rod if a 2 dr was available. I don't care how rare a 57 4dr hard top is, I don't want one.

I had 2 41 Willys more-doors(I don't remember ever seeing a factory 2 dr) and a few 4 door woodies but that's as far as I can go.

I guess you had to be there.

There would be a hell of a lot more 4drs left, if all the hot rodders didn't cut 'em up for their front clips and drive trains.

    4drs are parts cars. :D

Buy , build , drive what you want.

A 4 door fad? Some folks can only follow , never lead.

4 door cars will continue to gain in popularity.
    If they can be found.

These older fellas lived in a different time. (I respect and admire them and their time...by the way...so don't jump me).

They still think a 1958 chevy Apache is a "late model".
A 60's car to them was built yesterday. Its a NEW car.

Thats because they were there. To them it was yesterday. To them everything is still the same as it was 40 years ago.

Today things are different. I'd drive a 4 door with pride...if I had one.
I'd drive a 4 door with pride because its an old car. You're going to cruise down the strip and have everyone giving you the thumbs up....4 or 2 doors it doesn't matter nowdays.

Hell, I was checking out a mid 70's station wagon in the Wal mart parking lot the other day....why?????

Cause it was the most interesting vehicle there.

Drive that 4 door and be proud.
    It don't mean shit anymore.

BTW. on a side note. There were 4 door gassers in the past too. 4 door cars saw enough hot rod action to warrant some go fast upgrades if your so inclined.

I'll pay 20 times nothing for it right now sight unseen. Cash in hand! Let me know.

I don't think 4-doors will ever have the same mystique as a traditional coupe, but as fixable examples of 2-doors are becoming scarce, I think there is going to be some begrudging acceptance of more and more 4-doors in the scene.
I mean, SkyRodder's ride looks good. It does look a little out of proportion with the shorter doors, but I'd still roll in it.
I know I have to work within my budget too... and I don't know if I would let not being able to afford a 2-door would stop me.

Please no one take offence to this but, I'm 29 born in 77. Our generation has seen nothing but 4drs are whole life. So to us a 4dr isn't grandma's car, 60s cars seem old as hell and 80s camaros and mustangs were the 2dr options of our youth. I hate them both. Also our generation is the next to keep hot rodding alive in it's current definition. lastly I wouldn't want a 32 ford 4dr either. Thats grandpa's car.

Start with that and do this...

Long ways to go, but you get where I'm going... :D She'll look better with the 4-inch chop, real wheels and tires (cardboard ones don't get the speed I'm after) and a Hemi...

  11. I'll keep drivin' my suckin' 4 door,,,I don't have a problem with it!

I have also noticed that some who throw the verbal rocks at the more-doors don't even have a runnin' hot rod!

  13. sedans are fine if you just want to have a car to enjoy and not be anal about every little thing with. Some of them can be done to look pretty nice.

Then you have the Model A I bought. After looking it over better, I determined that the reason it had no back to it's cab is because it started out as a 4-door. Which is fine by me, a stock pickup cab is a little tight and one made from a sedan would be even tighter... I'll just add 6" or so to it and be comfortable.

Back when I was in high school, all they had was 4 door camaros.

We used to drive them with pride.

I wish I could find one nowdays. I bet they'd be worth a lot of money.

I'll relate a little story about a lonely 4 door.

When I was a kid in about the 6th grade (around 1985 +/-) I would hang out with my best friend and his brother over at their house.

His dad was a truck driver and into old cars. He had a 1954 chevy 4 door setting behind the house in the woods all ignored and rusting into shit.

We asked him one day why he didn't fix it up and drive it.

His answer: "Nobody fixes up 4 door cars".

    We thought he was stupid.

Guess he thought his 1984 Toyota pickup was much cooler.

I still think he was a dumbass for that.

Edit: an ending to the story....
I lived around there until 1992 when I moved away from home to start my life. That guy NEVER drove anything cooler than a damn 1979 Malibu......and what happened to the 4 door '54??? It rotted and rotted into the ground untill someone finally hauled it off for scrap.

    The end.

    ....what a dumbass.

I don't know about new craze, but you are seeing more of them every where you go. Saw some really sharp ones at Syracuse this year.
    But then I own one.

I don't know that they'll ever achieve 'craze' status, but I think 4 doors will continue to become more popular. Besides increasing scarcity of 2 doors, 4 doors are just more acceptable in the whole automotive world than they ever were in the past. Two doors continue to be a niche player in the new market because people realize that four doors can go just as fast as two AND you can get in and out of the back without being a contortionist. That sounds like the best of both worlds to large numbers of new buyers (especially if the more-door in question has a swoopy roof line) and I see no reason why that won't translate to rodding.

In todays production models, 2drs are the niche market. All the bad ass shit is coming wih 4drs. The only 2dr niche is the mustang and corvette and who likes vettes.

When I was 16 I hated all 4 doors and wagons. I wanted a 2 door car to drive to school. I had the 1956 Ford 2 door sedan that Dad had given me but I didn't have it roadworthy yet ( I was 17 by the time I had the 56 on the road). I picked out several cars that I wanted to buy but my parents kept coming up with reasons that I could not get them. The 1970 Torino Cobra 429 4-speed had too much power, they were afraid I would roll the 1970 Chevelle convertible and the 1969 Chevelle SS 396 was a Chevy (Mom hated Chevys).

One day they loaded me up in the car and we headed for town. We went to an old school teacher's house with a pink and white 1955 Ford 4 door sitting in the driveway. It turned out that Edna was selling "Pinkie" and my parents had decided that it was to be my new ride. So as a 16-year-old boy I got the privilage of driving "Pinkie" to school, how humiliating. The only consulation was that there was a classmate that drove a pink Pontiac to school.

When I was 17 I had a grain bin full of soybeans and the price was high so I went and bought a red 1968 Galaxie 2 door hardtop and finished the 56 so I had two 2 door cars so I parked "Pinkie" in the shed and it is still there today 32 years later.

Attitudes can change over the years and now those old 4 door cars are looking pretty good to me. I even bought a 1950 ford four door a couple of years ago. Maybe I should get old "Pinkie" out of the shed one of these years.

One more thing, I notice my seventeen-year-old son likes 4 door cars.

No 3drs, 4drs or hatchbacks. You can argue the two door wagon thing, but the all have hauled alot of croceries in their days.

Also their is only so many ways to can build a car and still make it look good. Maybe their is something to say about playing with the proportions of a four door and doing something new.

I think wagons are so cool, partly because the styling, it doesn't look anything like the two door, whereas the 4 door looks like a nerdy 2 door. The wagons can also haul a lot of stuff.

I think 4 doors may be snatched up but we'll be seeing a lot more 4 to 2 door conversions, I think that's the only way to make a lot of 4 doors cool. Except old 30's early 40's sedans, that's about it. Those I'd say are cool cause they have the gangster factor, and of course much better styling

    cool 4 door:

    not so cool 4 door:
