We are here and ready. Did not make a pass last night. Didn't want to break on a test and tune.
Ready to go at 1pm for qualifying. 20201120_150222.jpeg

All gas classes (there is a weight break for those running injection) and F/X class. The 409 is in the Walden's '33 Willys Coupe. Strych 09 409-Rob Walden.jpg

    R L Walden is a "good-old-boy-from-Ga." I believe. I know Tony (Quick & Dirty) is. Good folks!
He told me the other week that 409 is making OVER 800HP!! GM factory block.... Stupid fast.
Hoping for more pictures from Holt Fla. race (SEGA)

Sorry no more pictures it won't let me upload a video.
I thrashed all day on the car and we picked 8 tenths but I am overlooking something.
The car should be much faster than what it is.

For a group of over 500 pictures go to the SEGA web page and look at the photos. they also have video live feed from Saturday's action. A great race with all 4 classes being decided in eliminations.
Friday night was crazy for test and tune. The points leading cars just thrashing their rides to show the fans what to be prepared for on Saturday. The track got slick as the temp's dropped and there were a few guy's almost hitting the walls and guy's starting one lane and finishing in the other lane.
Credit the track team for fixing the track Friday night so some very fast runs could be made.
Mark March 20 th 2021 on your travel planner. The first race of the season SEGA will be back at Holt ,Florida for the season opener.
Made some changes to the paint scheme for the new season. Was going to go with Tn. orange and white, but they are in such a bad situation that I just can't waste Llyod's time and generosity. So we are going to honor all of the educator's who have risked their health to teach kids in this time of the pandemic .
We are going with school bus yellow with black coves and the car will be called School's Out.
Referring to Alice Coopers song . It should look really good.

Sounds like a great theme, Mike. For those planning a trip to Holt in the spring, the track is about 30 mins. from the ocean, so bring some beachwear!

I hope I have found my top end issue with the car. After talking to Jimmy Huff, well known Ford Guru
in the Southeast Gassers. He came to the conclusion it was lack of fuel causing my top end woes.
After getting the car unloaded Sunday afternoon something told me to look at the fuel line for restrictions. So I jacked up the right side of the car and right where the fuel line goes past the frame and into the engine bay is my diaper strap.
My neighbor was helping me install the diaper and when he pulled the strap tight it squeezed the fuel line almost flat. I would like to blame him for that ,but ultimately it is my fault for not checking behind him and for routing the fuel line close enough for the strap to come in contact with the fuel line.
At least it is an easy fix and hopefully it will make a difference in the performance of the car.
A friend just moved into a new house way out in the country with a long straight stretch of good road in front of his house and no neighbors close. So next week we will load up and go make a few test hits to see how it feels .
Sat. Dec 5th there is a nostalgic car show and drag race at Paradise drag strip in Calhoun , Ga. that we will be able to go get some test passes in and have E.T. clocks to confirm our suspicions that this is the problem.
I also pulled the fresh air hoses off the car. I noticed down in Florida that when I was setting the timing that every time I revved the motor up to check total timing that the hoses would be drawn up toward the carb. Telling me that they are a restriction . So back to the drawing board and bigger hoses and a larger air box is needed. Along with larger openings at the the headlights.
More things to put on my winter to do list. I am thinking about a steeper gear also. I am looking at a 6.20 or a 6.33 to make this car turn about 7800 in high gear at the stripe.
I need to pull the chunk out anyway to install a new spool to allow my bigger axles. So I can just as easily change the gear ratio at that time.

In my drag o/t car with a 5.86 and a 31'' tire I was shifting at 82, and crossing the line at 76.
    Good luck in the chase.

You need a fuel pressure gauge between your fuel pressure regulator and the carb to keep track of the pressure in the lights. Found a week pump that way.

My 60 foot times did not reflect what my e.t and mph. ended up being. My 60 ft. times should have related to a low 7 second e.t. and a mid 90 mph trap speed, but they ended up being 9.00 at 75 mph because the car would not pull in 3 rd and didn't need 4th gear . The car pulled the wheels off the line and was strong to the 1-2 shift which was the capacity of the fuel bowls.
The collapsed fuel line prevented the fuel from flowing to the carb and so I am assuming a massive fuel pressure drop. My 60 ft. times were comparable to the top cars in the class. I know that because I ran them in qualifying and first round of eliminations.
If the weather is good we will be at Paradise dragstrip on the 5th of Dec. for a nostalgic car show and drag race. I will have traction bars and I have fixed the fuel line. So we will know if the problem is fixed or if I need to dig deeper.

Sometimes its the simple stuff that bite us square in the rear! Not enough fuel.........who'da-thunk-it?
Can you run electric fuel pump in S/S?
Maybe a 7/16" (or bigger) to the carb and back with a pressure regulator in between(and a cool can). A circulating fuel line will help keep the fuel from getting warm and insure a constant supply to carb.
Good old Calhoun Ga.!!!! Some of my kin-folk may be there!!
    I'll be watching.............

I have a 140 GPH electric fuel pump with -8 fuel line to the regulator and dual -6 lines from the regulator to the fuel bowls. That should be plenty to feed my little motor . I had the same pump feeding a 12.00 to 1 468 big block Chevy with no issues. Turning it 7500 rpms feeding a Dominator carb.
6sally6 Tell your kin folk to stop by and say hello if they have electricity so you can contact them. Will they be the ones with the bib overhauls and bare foot ? :D

    Got my slapper bars done.
Yeah 6sally6 I am just yanking your chain. Tell them to stop by my pit and and say hello.
The snubber is adjustable. So if the weather cooperates we can run Saturday. If not it's after Christmas and tow to south ga to test. 20201129_154017.jpeg 20201129_154037.jpeg 20201129_155000.jpeg

Did you remove the pinion snubber?

No I did not. I did however adjust it to give the slapper bars a chance to work. I had built adjustment into the pinion snubber . Just loosen the nuts and screw it up or down. I have about the same amount in both the slapper bar snubbers and the pinion snubber.
The pinion snubber is polyurethane and if needed I can take my wiz wheel and trim a little off if needed. It looks like Saturday is going to be about 50 degrees so we might be able to test. Crossing our fingers.

Do you have someone who could video the rear of the car as it reacts to the launch? Might help you.

Read the rules. No Caltrac bars. Slapper bars are the only traction device allowed on leaf spring cars and it carries a 100 lb. penalty. I was trying to avoid the weight penalty.
Yes, my wife is video taping the car's launch. We have run the videos frame by frame to see what the car is doing. That's why it now has slapper bars to help correct the problem.
If this helps I will be ordering a set of double adjustable rear shocks to give me more adjustment.
I will also be tying the front end down. I haven't done that yet so I could get as much weight transfer as possible.

Well I never could get a car to bite with slappers and the front tied down, hope you can get it to work the way you want. Hope the weather lets you do some testing. Good luck, safe travel’s

Why the bars?! Were you getting too much wheel spin?.....Hop(I doubt this!).....squirrelly launch?
    Just wondering........

I was still getting some hop. No wheel spin. Just enough hop to affect the 60 ft. times.

Well the weather is looking better. The rain is supposed to end Friday night and it is supposed to be 55 degrees Saturday.
I hope to get at least 3 passes in on Saturday. Y'all come to Calhoun, Ga Paradise dragstrip on Saturday and join in on the fun.
