I have seen a video on YouTube where a mechanic removes the outlet transmission line that goes to the cooler, puts a clear plastic line with a clamp over the end, and the open end into a large pan, then has someone crank the engine. This pumps all the fluid out of the transmission and torque converter. When bubbles appear he has them shut the engine off. Then he removes the pan, and filter, etc. Since, I'm not a member of that auspicious body, I cannot link you to the video. My point is this. If you are going to replace the fluid, does it not make sense to get it all out before putting fresh fluid back in? And, as to not replacing it, the poster who posed the question about engine oil hit the nail on the head. Lubricants are designed for a limited time use only, and even synthetics have to be replaced. Science and Logic trump superstitious bunk. Unless you paint something green on or around a race car.

Thanks that is interesting! I'll consider it for next time but for now it's all sealed up and leak free (for now)

Thanks, I took the cable out of cable housing and sprayed it with white lithium grease except the last 6 inches on the dash side. Also I rotated it slowly in the U-shape and didn't see it whip. I put it back in the housing and connected the dash side and then used a drill to spin it counter-clockwise on the trans side and I could hear the grinding noise in the dash when I used my Iphone to record it and it looked like it might be doing the bounce still but hard to tell since the drill was varying in speed.

It seems way too much work right now to take the cluster out, especially with the oil pressure line needing to come undone. I'm not sure if there is a way to lube it with something like silicone spray from the inside without taking it apart? I doubt it but it'll have to take the cluster out when I have some time. I didn't see any brass plug for lubricating it when I checked.

Also the odometer has been stuck too since I got the truck so I suspect its related based on some things I've read elsewhere.
