Looking to have a Magneto rebuilt, cleaned and case polished. I've searched the interweb and not to many rebuilders polish the case. Anyone have a recommendation?
Not a big deal, since rebuilders don't normally do show work, you may have to have the rebuilder take it apart, "you"...take the parts to a polisher, then return the shiny parts to the rebuilder. Two extra trips, oh well... Mike
I was looking for a recent thread about Joe Hunt. It has since been taken down. If I recall, there were a few Magneto Shops mentioned in that thread.
Get it polished before you send it can you dismantle it ? if so any polisher that does big rugs should be able to get it shiny for you then send it to the mag builder of your choice. if you can’t dismantle it then tape / wrap it up tight and let have it to the outside, builder will have to pull it completely apart anyways for rebuild/ refurb.
Is this the one? I found a ton of recent threads. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/please-educate-me-on-magnetos.1203592/#post-13720829
Most of the Vertex Mags have holes for the rivets. If they dont do it themselves, its a PITB for them, having to rely on a secondary outside source, back and forth shipping, taking extra care not to mar up the polished finish while working on it, and then (not you) having to listen to the owner that you charged him $150 for the extra service
Call Spud Miller at Fuel Injection Enterprises, or check out the website. He polished my Vertex case as part of a normal overhaul. I don't know how crazy you want to go with the polishing, but if you just want it shined up I think that you will be very ok with his work.
I just talked Pat Mason at Mason Racing Ignitions today about my Vertex. Super nice guy. Give him a shout. 215-795-2310.
The magnets in my Cirello "Frankenstein" got weak and I couldn't get it to start easily. It ran great once I got it going, though. After a few inquiries (on here), I found out Tony(?) Cirello's son was still running the business and would refurbish my magneto. This was for an early Chrysler hemi, and while discussing what needed to be done, etc., he mentioned that these things were very much in demand for "Cacklefest" cars. I sold it to him as is for what I thought was an obscene amount and installed a Mallory "flattop" that I just happened to have. Everybody's happy. Anyway, about 5 years ago he was still in the magneto business.
I also will stand up for Spud Miller and recommend him. He's as good as it gets with all magnetos and well as mechanical fuel injection. Besides that he's a great guy. fuelinjectionent.com or 541-990-2485
@61cad Give Pat Mason a call he’s in PA, he is a great guy and has many years experience. His turn around time and prices are very reasonable.
