Hey all, installed a Mr gasket Ratchet shifter into the 55 Fargo, when I swapped in the 318/904 combo.
I have no cover, and need to come up with some ideas, and/or console to finish the job.
I have a truck bench seat, so it will need to be a short console or cover of some sort.
So if any of you have any ideas please share them.
The store bought covers from say B&M are real flimsy and cheap, but not so cheap in price.
    Thanx In Advance

As easy as a visit to your local thrift store.

I think I would drive the truck and decide if I really liked the ratchet shifter before putting a lot of effort into building some sort of console for it.

Other than that design a console that looks like it belongs there more than the Ricky Racer ratchet shifter.

How about supplying us with a picture of your shifter?

Love the shifter, simple and solid.

Will do, pulling nights right now.

You could make a cover out of PVC pipe. The stuff comes in all kinds of diameters, you can glue it with PVC pipe cement. Fairly easy to cut to length and make slots. Or, use an old ammo box to do the same thing. Or, look in housewares like Denny suggested at a thrift store. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

In my Merc I have a Hurst shifter welded to a Jaguar shift mechanism. Bent up a simple metal box to house it and wired in some warning lights from the Neutral safety switch and reverse light connection, to help identify when its in gear.

Here is one I made using a old Hurst boot, the boot was pretty big 5 x 7 or so and fairly tall. I made a metal box with some nut certs to hold it in place.

Glad to see you are moving forward on the truck!
I've been going back over old posts and just found this one.
Making a cover will almost certainly require fabricating something or re-purposing something.
Get measurements of the area to be covered. Say 15"x5" by roughly 3" to allow for the curve at the bottom edges, going by the picture.
You could cut out a cardboard template of the finished product to get a better idea.
I don't have access to a sheetmetal shop, so I'd go to a local junkyard and/or thrift shop and hold this pattern up to various things to find something that could be made to work. Think a tool box lid, a barbecue lid, an ammo box, etc. 5-10 bucks will probably get you a great start.
Look at cars and trucks in the yard to get ideas for shapes that please you too. Maybe grab a phone holder, cup holder, flashlight holder, fire extinguisher mount or whatever else you might want in the area too.
Then once you know what you want and hopefully the raw materials to make it, build your solution!
