Going through some old boxes found this distributor. Model z type 11A. Any information would help. Thanks View attachment 4911363 Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app View attachment 4911352
The 11 stamped on it tells us it is for Model A and B Ford, and the Z means it has a vacuum brake. The fitting on the side can be connected to manifold vacuum to control the advance but the leather pad inside the vacuum brake housing is probably hard as a rock and ineffective. You might be able to make a replacement, or try to contact tubman here on the HAMB he may have them. If the rotor is p/n 24215 it has a spring loaded contact and I believe you will need the old style 24004 brown cap. I had a 324 Olds Mallory and the 24215 rotor made contact with the later 4004 black cap preventing rotation.
There’s no points inside. Looks like setup for dual Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I thought that the Z in Mallory coding referred to "centrifugal and vacuum advance" rather than vacuum brake. Y for centrifugal advance only. I could be wrong though. Cheers, Harv
good read here mallory distributor question | Page 1 | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com) And Moriarty put up this complete list of part numbers here Technical - Mallory distributor part number list | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com)
Wow man @tacobill, member since 2015 and first three posts. I don't have that kind of restraint Welcome Sure would like to see more of your avatar looks like fun and a candidate for the dizzy
What do you think it might need other than cleaning, points and the leather piece for the vacuum brake? BTW, as old as it is it may use 24205 points, or maybe the later 24875's.
I make the leather piece for the vacuum brake from the proper 12 oz .leather (which is about 1/4" thick) Unfortunately, I am in Florida for the winter and my shop is in Minnesota. If you can wait until next April, I'll send you one if you remind me then.
I have a vehicle with a Mallory distributor that I cannot find anything on. It's not even on the list above. It's a model ZA, Type 20A. No serial number stamped on it.
