Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by scotty t, Mar 27, 2020.

  1. I’ve got two projects going on in this thread, i described the motor in the belair. The vette motor will be very similar.

  2. Oh shit! I've got the Corona, this might slow me down a bit......

  5. NOT corona beer! :DCOVID virus. So far it just seems like a mild flu or a cold. BUT my mail order engine for the vette is coming tomorrow! I gave the wife a twenty to bribe the Fed EX guy to wheel it into the garage:cool:

  6. Best wishes on a quick and complete recovery. Then back to your projects.

You tested positive? Well good luck with a speedy recovery in any case. With your two projects you have a lot to look forward to.

Offer him another $20 to put it in and hook up the headers. Then you can play with the easy stuff up top while you recover.

  14. Damn good idea!

  15. Well the delivery guy took the bribe and put the motor in a good spot for me. Maybe i’ll feel good enough to open it up soon, then haul it back to the shop:confused: If anyone ever wandered why they are called crate engines, it’s obvious!:D

That looks like a motorcycle lift under the Vette. Interesting, I've considered trying mine..

    How you doing today?

  21. I’m feeling better, thanks for asking. As far as i know that lift is meant to be a car lift, i know other guys with similar devices. As light as a stripped out vette is you could probably use a m/c lift, although i believe they are more narrow than this one.

Merry Christmas, hope you are continuing to improve.

Now I remember, my motorcycle lift is only rated at 800lbs., and it struggles with big bikes. It has an air bladder, not hydro, but the frame looks just like that (it's a Handylift).

My '56 hasn't moved in months, but I have pretty much finished building the garage around it. Going to be spring before I get it out, you may get there before me!

  23. @blowby post pics of your shop when you get done with it. Is the vette going to remain a stocker? Or maybe a bit of a hotrod?

  24. Well now the painter Is infected as well as our buddy who has been a lot of help on these two projects. Dammit! 2020 has been a shit storm for a lot of people in a lot of ways. I’ve had my own issues this year but not as bad as some that i know. Take care everyone and hope for a better 2021!!

The shop is built into a hillside on an old house foundation. The inside is still a mess.. The '56 Vette is going to be a stocker. It's just too original, never damaged, original block, dual quads.. My '66 on the other hand.. hit in ever corner, 454..

Anyway, man tough going out there with the Covid. Here too, in addition to half the state burning down. Yep, tough year.

  26. @blowby That garage is tucked in nice! Almost hidden. You have a great pair of vettes.

3 speed. I'll start a thread on it pretty soon, interesting back story. Scotty sent me an original ignition switch, the previous owner had changed it for a goofy anti-theft system.

For right now just want Scotty to recover and keep his projects moving along. Funny thing is mine is red, I'd like black. His is, or was black, he's going red, last I heard.

  29. Thanks for the concern! I believe i’m fully recovered from the covid it’s the laying around for a week i’m having problems with now:D. I do think 56/7 vettes look great in black especially with silvers coves and red guts. But i’ve been staring at this one in black/silver since 1984-5 it’s not the original color and since i’m not changing out the black interior i felt it was time for a change. I won’t know for sure what color it will be until it is back on the road:p since originality went out the window in the 60’s the sky (and taste) is the limit!

  30. Well i hurt my back moving the new motor between my two garages. Laying around for a week was harder on me than the covid was. I mocked up some of the parts i plan to use on the vette. 69 z28 intake and valve covers, and a gto aircleaner ( looks like a vette part). Now i’m off to the powder coater. Block and heads will be painted orange. Will look old at first glance.
