No, pulled the original out, and started modifying it from there. Climbed in, climbed out, climbed under, whatever it took.

If it has a white triangle it’s a video. This should work on a desk top. On a phone you might have to tell it to open in browser instead of it trying to get you to have the IG app

 

Any shots of how you cut and pasted the roof together with the slanted chop? Looks fantastic I’m always a*****er for a wedge chop

I just marked off my tape lines of 6” in front, and 5” in back on an angle instead of straight across like normal. I picked the body line and measured up from there, and hoped for the best....I had to grind down a couple of places where my elementary school geometry memory wasn’t quite correct, but it turned out fine to me.

 

Out of curiosity, because that’s something I never run out of, did you keep your cut lines at the A B & C pillars parallel just increasing amounts.

or did you slant the cut path all the way across?

I guess any easier way to say that would be are the cuts a stair case or a ramp?

seems your A pillars aren’t slanted and the roof isn’t stretched so you probably tipped the back window area forward? Stock a 30 coupes back window area actually leans backwards as it goes up. Hardly noticeable until
You start really cutting into one. I’d guess with your wedge chop it would just bring the back window area back vertical...

The rearmost back window cut and A pillars are straight cuts, the B pillars have a slight angle cut (can’t really tell once it’s welded back together), and the C pillar I marked the cut line straight on the bottom and at an angle on top, I cut the C a couple of times because I wasn’t really able to get the correct angle of the 1” difference from front to back, I then ground down what I needed little by little at the bottom (which is actually the roof cut off) of the B & C pillar to bring the A pillar in line with each other

i love seeing chopped full fendered hot rods. i want fenders so bad, just have to find a decent set.

 

Chopped hard but full fendered for a change. Looks good. I watched your videos. The flathead sounds great. Ran the sound through the bluetooth stereo out here in the garage. My bass speaker sits under my old steel desk. Turned up the volume. Shook the desk. LOL

Thanks. From the photos it looks like you took out the whole big boxy crossmember? what kind of crossmember did you put in to hold up the trans in the rear? I'm asking, because I've got a buddy who has been after me to help put a flathead in his A. I thought we would have to pull the body and that's way to much work for me to do on the buddy system.

 

This isn’t my picture, but it’s where I got the idea... welded in half of a 6” pipe, where i notched the crossmember, and in place of the flat bar they used, I used 3” C channel. Welded in place like theirs. Rubber cushions between the channel and trans mount, and bolted in place. Only thing I removed was the grille shell, radiator, hood, original engine/trans. Worked everything together with the car on 6 jackstands under the frame....3 on each side body, frame, fenders all left intact and****embled.

Got it wired up and gauged. Had the fuel gauge ohmed to match my sender but the guy still got it wrong, so I modified a ‘64 Impala gauge to use for now. Since I installed dual temp. gauges for the Flatty, I moved the ignition switch to where the original speedometer light was, and then attached the top of the light to the key so it looks like the light is still there when the key is in. Put a light switch in the upper dash rail as I didn’t want a switch “floating around” somewhere under the dash.

 

Looks killer. I’m debating fenders for mine I’m building. Love the full fender with a heavy chop look
