Ha! I’m pretty motivated. I haven’t had the car for a week yet and my first post to this thread was less than a month ago. But, I wouldn’t have solidified my plan and understood where best to start without the support and advice of this group. Like I mentioned a bit earlier, it’s like we are building this together.

Any rules, guidelines, or recommendations, for headlight mounting location?

It will look better if you move them back so the front of the headlight is inline with the front of the grill shell! Also keeping them tucked in close to that sides of the grill shell is good and don't mount them so they get high enough to make them stand out.

I like headlights a little ahead of the grille shell. If even or behind the grille it looks like they got punched. Give us a head-on view, as that is as important as the sides.

Yeah. That is what I was thinking too. I’ll send a pic from the front when I get a chance.

Sorry, but I am gonna ask this question one more time.

    Rear bumper brace.

Remove them or cut them off? Still seems like it provides some needed rumble seat support.

Do no Harm. Remember that concept. There's no need to destroy parts if you don't have too. One day you may want to run fenders, maybe even the back bumpers. Unbolt them, put them away.
If you are worried about support there, make "cut-off" brackets and bolt them up.

Or you could look up your states MVD regulation on headlight heights and go from there. There is a range between too high and too low :)

Thanks loudbang! Great pics. As I figured it is just personal preference along with state laws. I think I will place them just a bit head of the radiator. Similar to how they were on the light bar when attached to the finders.

Ordered my tires. [emoji4] Firestone 700-16 rears and 550-16 fronts. I actually wanted the 750 rears but they are on back order until March. Can’t wait that long. I did get the awesome Alliance discount and Coker is doing free shipping on Firestone tires.

I spent some time today with dustyp489 who lives about 35 mins away from me here in MD. He is a great guy that has been working on Model A’s for well over 20 years and has a wealth of knowledge. He was very patient with me as I asked a million questions and checked out his sweet 1931 Model A Pickup. He built it to race with a hopped up banger. It even has a roll bar in the cab! At one point he had a 32.

He sold (tried to give to me but I gave him something for them) me 5 1935 wire wheels he used as rollers. Between the wheels I bought off CL and the ones I got from Skip I am pretty certain I have at least 4 good ones. I’m 1935 wire wheel poor now.

I also dropped by Bratton’s Antique Auto in Mt Airy, MD. The original owner, Walter, who is now retired and sold the business to his kids, happened to be there. It was pretty awesome. Lothiandon1940 told me about them. They have a whole warehouse full of parts right there. No waiting for shipping!!! I couldn’t help but to buy some more stuff. I got the float motor mounts, valve cover and oil return tube gaskets since I will be digging into the engine tomorrow to try to fix the oil leak. Walter can tell you anything you want to know about Model A’s. He was rattling off bolt sizes and which tool works best to reach certain areas. They also had a ‘cut-away’ banger on a cart right there in the front office. It was pretty cool to see inside a banger. Very happy that there is such a great Model A parts resource so close to me.

What a great hot rod day!!!

  22. Hey monkey,
I think you have to loose the grill guard.
The headlights are cool, but a '40s teen would never
keep that grill guard. Another part to fund the build!

Thanks Don. That is probably where they will go. Job one today is dropping the oil pan, checking the oil return, and maybe getting brave enough to check crankshaft spacing/adjusting the shims.

Pist-n-Broke - No oil return tube. You were right! Looks like it may have been tack welded on there once before and now broken off and completely missing. Mystery solved.

Now I just have to figure out how to get one back in there since it won’t thread at all. More to follow. IMG_5092.JPG

Tube installed and welded. Oil pan back on. Haven’t tested it yet. I need to run and get some oil. Ha!

Let it idle for about 10 mins. So far so good. No leaks. Still up on Jack stands. I plan to take it for a spin tomorrow.
