Come on fella's. How about a little help here. All I want to do is "CONTACT" a seller trying to sell his car. I followed your tutorial and still can't reach him. I tried a different avenue to reach him and I get this email from some Moriarity person [who ever in the world he is] with his message to respond to him only on the HAMB. Where on the HAMB do I respond to you Moriarity ?? Where?? How about a little guidance. In my misdirected e-mail [where I said sorry for making a mistake if I made one] I told you I just joined and DON'T know how to navigate your web site. So how about a little compassion and kindness to start the new year and help an old time Hot Rodder figure this out. Thanks for listening "Frustrated"
There is a rule that you can not contact anyone via PM (private message) until you have 10 posts on the forum. After you have 10 posts this is the procedure to contact a person with an ad https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/cant-reply-to-classified-ads.699639/
Oh the intro badgering... Isn't anyone gonna freak out about not including his location? (that's another common one)
I have to say am not a fan of this rule. As a seller on the H.A.M.B. I don't really care abut the number of post someone has. I don't want to miss a sale because it was someone's first day on the H.A.M.B. and they don't have any posts. If someone has the money and I find them to be a trustworthy person I am going to sell them the part. That's why I always include my phone number in my ads I will not sell or buy from anyone who is not willing to talk on the phone. You can get a read on someone by tone of voice, if there are long pauses, or they can't answer questions about the parts.
I just checked the rules to see if that is in there. I heard that it was a requirement but I couldn’t find anything. What I did find is that the 10 post rule is stated in the cars for sale part (#3) but it is not in the parts for sale section nor the antiquated section. They only go to 2. Could this be part of the problem why people don’t seem to get it? I know most don’t read it unfortunately but even if you do.......it’s not in that section. I also noticed most of the deer in the headlight posts involved parts. Maybe I missed it.
Really? Unfortunately some people are not as astute as you seem to be. Maybe they are blinded by the rare part score or the super deal but it really doesn’t matter. If a few people can be saved from being ripped off it’s worth it. Who knows it might save you one day down the road when your Spider Senses aren’t tingling.
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...-using-this-forum-read-before-posting.327192/ paragraph 6, last sentence. You should read these. Everybody should
I am not saying I don't understand it, but as I say I won't do business with anyone who won't talk to me on the phone even on a $25.00 sale, I am shocked that people are willing to make multi-thousand dollar deals via Email and text. I am naturally skeptical. -I don't trust anyone who won't give a full name in their ad or when they contact me. -Won't give a phone number. -Just wants text or E mail -I have sold several parts to non H.A.M.B. members because I give my phone number in my adds. -I walked away from a deal with a long time H.A.M.B.er because he would only do business though a P.M. -I have walked away form a couple deals from long time H.A.M.B. because of their actions on the phone.
I admit that I missed that. I was talking about the big stop signs at the top of each classified section. Please read them and see if my earlier post makes sense about the 10 post rule. I do have weak eye sight and a short attention span though.
Are you referring to this?? YOUR AD MUST INCLUDE THE CITY AND STATE. Yes, we realize that your profile may include it but it also may not. This is an attempt for us to cut down on spammers and protect YOU. We don't want to have to check each ad to see if it's in the profile so fill out the little box and save us all some grief.
Well...I'm not freaking out about it, but it definitely helps out to know where people are located if they're asking for help out on the forums. It is also considerate. And finally, all of the "top secret, I'm chickenshit to tell anyone where I live, spy bullshit" gets tiring...
No not that. This. Last sentence. Every item for sale must be listed and every item listed must have a price. If you are parting out a car you must list the big items, with prices. You should request that interested parties Private Message (PM) or EMAIL you with other parts requests. If your email is disabled your ad will be deleted. New users must introduce themselves in the intro forum.
We are working with everyone...... Sometimes you have to adjust to minor changes that occur because issues come up. These issues were increasing - so a change was made to help reduce the issues. The HAMB first and foremost is a Traditional Hot Rod and Custom website. That is the focus. The classifieds are a nice secondary benefit that Ryan made available for free so I wouldn't overlook that. Again, for free so I would be thankful it is available and this minor change is certainly workable for everyone.
Well admittedly I was not aware of that. I have never looked at the classified rules.....don't really go there. It does contradict the main rules.....this will really put the intro police in a tail spin! 4. While we don't require "introductions," some members do appreciate them so it might be a good idea for you to do one here. Just introduce yourself and let folks know what you are all about.
There's probably many reasons people don't wish to share such information. "chicken shit", and paranoia are probably quite low on the list... Lol
I hate the rule. It sucks... And causes me a lot of work and grief... BUT, my priority is to protect our membership from scammers.
There is a tempest in this teapot, and i may drown in a hot toddy. Oh, and thanks for what you are doing Ryan.
Hey Gordon, you are posting. We can all see your last seven posts. What exactly are you having trouble with?
