What 4 door cars do you think look as good as their 2 door versions? 4 doors are becoming more acceptable and for those who like to pile family or friends into their cars for events, going out to eat or just riding around, 4 doors are more convenient. Most people who own these older cars are of an age, therefore have freinds of an age that makes climbing into the back seat of a 2 door car....not as easy as it used to be.

Or is there a make and model where you think the 4 door cars actually look better than the 2 door version?

The 59/60 GM 4dr hardtop flat tops are great looking cars. But nicer than a 2dr? Hmmm , certainly more attractive $$$ wise and practical, and nice and all... I agree there are quite a few 4drs out there that are cool and nice , but still: NICER than a 2dr? Can´t think of any...

I always thought my 64 Cadillac 62 series 4 dr was better looking than the 2 dr. The roof just looked too short on the 2 dr.
I had a 60 Merc 4 dr ht (not a flat top sedan) that had a nice profile. From a distance it was hard to tell it wasn't a 2 dr ht.

I wish I still had both of them !

    I think there are several that look just as good as, but not better than;
The 55-56 Ford 4 door hardtop, the 56-7 Chevy 4 door hardtop, it has to be a hardtop, not the sedan version. The 32-33-34 Ford, the 65 Ford Galaxie hardtop, many years of Cadillac, some Cadillacs do look better as a 4 door, more aesthetically proportioned ....there are probably a lot more that I think look just as good in 2 or 4 door version but thats all I can think of off hand this morning.

I haven't seen or heard anything to convinces me yet.

Some of them can stand on their own as good looking designs, but better looking than the two door examples? I don't see it.

After thinking about this, I'm going to contradict myself (in a way). I am an aficionado of "shoebox" Fords. I have always thought that the two door sedans (with their large rear side windows sporting faux "wings") were extremely awkward looking, sort of like a four door with their rear handles removed and the rear door seams filled. Thus I believe a "shoebox" Ford four door to be a better looking car than a two door sedan. However, when you come to the coupes, there is no contest whatever; they are vastly superior in looks. This is even more so with the '51 Victoria's.

It's always more complicated than at first thought.

  11. Here's a Pic. of a 4 door merc. that I though would be Perfect.

  13. Sorry, if you are talking off the show room floor, I can’t do it, maybe some wagons, some of the 4 door trucks are unusual, not sure they are better looking. No four doors is one of the rules I have set to limit the madness.

"blowby" - I have to agree that's a good lookin' car. Did they even make a two door version? I can't seem to bring one to mind.

I think the 1970's Lincoln 4-door's car's look great! The 'OL Gangsta look! Two door in same series just don't look Correct. But that's my opinion.

Back in the 1970s there was a Burt Reynolds movie called WW and the Dixie Dancekings. In it Reynolds drove a fictional 55 Olds 4dr hardtop 50th anniversary model in black and gold. Supposedly it was one of only 50 made. I didn't notice the car was a 4dr until i watched it a second time. Was quite a good looking car as i remember.

I always thought the side trim on that car looked odd, starting at the back of the windshield as it did. My old man had a '55 Olds Super 88 4 door sedan where that side trim started at the dip in the top of the rear door (where it looks like it was intended to be) that I think looks a lot better.

Strange; after looking, there seem to be examples of the same model that have the trim on both ways. I thought it might be an "88 vs 98" thing, but it doesn't look like it.

Maybe because of Lucas Doolin, but I have a soft spot for the Tudor sedans.
I find the drip rail and the busy-ness going above and behind the rear doors at the roof line really distracting on a shoebox Fordor. It's like it has 2 competing roof lines, the door and the drip rail.
A Coupe, There's no comparison they are just great looking cars.
    Victorias...Beautiful.
Crestliners...I have always though they were odd. Bloated comes to mind. Maybe that's unfair.
That Crestliner treatment would have been "interesting" on a Fordor.

A 1959 Ford Fordor Hardtop is a nice looking car.
The Mid 50s Olds Holiday Hardtops are great looking cars.

Mercury had some interesting Fordors in the early 60s....
    The Breezeway
    The Marauder
Both of these are really neat cars.

My first thought. I had a white 64 and really liked that car (tank).

I like the look of a '49 Plymouth 4 door more than the 2 door. These cars are basically the same from '49 to '52 but I only like the '49. It has a smaller rear window, smaller windshield, nicer looking rear fenders, and those great ripple bumpers. It looks great when chopped. Scan-191218-0001.jpg

The 59 Ford is a car that gave me the idea to start this thread.
