At my age the mid 50's 4 door hardtops look good and make more sense if you want to haul passengers. Had a 56 Chevrolet 4 door hardtop years ago, like the 57too, the mid 50's Buick shown earlier looks great and 56 Ford 4 door hardtop is cool!

One four door that I saw at a show once was a 1950 Chevy 4 door fastback that was all modified by Chip Foose. It was even in a magazine once to show how he modified it. The changes were so blending that the car attracted me to go and look at it and I was so surprised to see it was a 4 door. Outside a 32 Ford 4 door and a 33 Plymouth 4 door, it was the only other 4 door I ever liked. Wish I had a picture of it.

All those touring cars from the twenties and thirties look better than the coupes and sedans - as long as they have the top down.

The 49 - 51 Chevy fleetline 4doors and 2 doors look very similar in my opinion. I have a 50 4 door for the very reason mentioned. I’m a family man that prefers to make it easier to get the kids in the back.

you guys keep saying "looks good" the question was "looks better than"-so no. On a related note,my dad, father of 4 of us, always bought TWO doors for the kids safety-His fear was one of us opening a back door while moving!!!He never got 4 doors until we were all older

    Actually the title was
"4DR CARS THAT LOOK AS GOOD AS 2DR VERSION"
and the question in the body of the OP was "What 4 door cars do you think look as good as their 2 door versions?" The words "better than" were not used at all. The words "as good" were.

In my eyes, none of them. No matter the make or model, if a 2-door was offered, I would prefer it over a 4-door.

But if the choice was between ANY vintage 4-door car or a modern pos jelly bean 2-door car, I'd be a 4-door man.

Have to admit... some 4-doors look pretty good.

49-51 Mercury, 49-51 Chevy Fleetline, and 59-60 GM flat-tops are all nice looking 4 doors that don't have to be second string to the 2 door versions.

Not my intention to go off on a tangent, and I will admit I was much more of a 2dr bigot in my younger years, but...

Is the 2dr bias mostly a US/Canadian thing, or do Aussies, Kiwis, Brits, etc covet 2dr's more than 4dr's also?

I ask because my 2+ month trip all over Australia in '96 had me come across cars & hotrodders while there, and a number of them were doing it unabashedly with 4drs.

I am by no means a Chevy fan but I always thought the '56-'57 4dr hardtop roof was better looking the the 2dr hardtops. The fact that they had 4 doors? Not so much.

  27. I think that the '56 Chevy 4 door hardtop was actually a better looking car than the 2 door hardtop.

no, the preference for 2 doors is the same here (and I believe it to be the world over).
Hot rods started out with 2 door coupes and roadsters. 4 doors were considered parts cars.
But what I have noticed here in the last 10 years is a lot of the young generation are using 4 door ‘60s cars, maybe because they are cheaper, more readily available, and they all grew up with 4 door family cars , ( albeit Japanese ones) so we see a lot more of them now.
