92E72884-B4BE-4AAC-A5E0-8F1BCA0940BC.jpeg Tommy from Sweden writing and want input.
As retirement is near my plan is to spend two months (Jan/feb) out of every year in either Calif or Florida, in my youth i did just that with 3 months a year in mostly San Diego (OceanBeach)
As my life now is filled with Rods, Dragracing and Harleys i’m in need of suggestions over a good location where i will have lots of our lifestyle around me.

My plan is to rent a house and buy a Rod and store it while in cold Sweden.

    So all suggestions are welcome

Not an expert on California but Florida is much less restrictive concerning what you drive and I suspect is cheaper to live in. Florida is a hotbed of car related activities and the winter months are more comfortable weather-wise. It is a wetter climate than California so it might be a good idea to go there and experience it before making any big financial decisions.

And what about where the world's biggest one day car cruise is Held? How about the motor city? woodward.jpg

  4. Woodard ave is nothing like it was 30 years ago, mostly new cars as far as the eye can see. HRP

  5. OP is interested in January and February visit to USA.
Woodward is snow packed at that time.
Florida and SoCal are at the top of his list.

Never actually been there but I've always heard Austin TX is the place to go!

    PB, MB, IB, OB.

I lived in San Diego for twenty years. As you know, a lot of hot rodding going on. And close enough to Pamona to take in the Pamona swap meet, and LA Roadster Show (without having to live in LA. OB would be a great location, despite the politics.

  8. Everyplace is the Hot Rod capitol just ask anyone who lives there.

There is a lot of rod action in the mid west as well as bikes and bikers. But in the summer it is unbearable hot and in the winter unbearably cold. I would look for a place that has weather that you like not too much violent crime and find some HAMBers in the area.

If i had to choose a spot to winter in the US, all things considered, Austin would be on the top of my list.

I like westcoast Florida and westcoast Ca. Have heard much good about Austin, only been there once (1982) so it might hav changed since
I hear a lot of people saying: stay out of Ca. Why? Politics? Regulations? Been there almost every year as a tourist since 1982 and in my eyes not much has changed....

I live in Austin, TX... It's a great place to live. In fact, I think it's a far better place to live than California (for me), but even I have to admit... Our hot rod scene (as great as it is) takes a back seat to the hot rod capital of the world - Southern California. That's where it started and that's where it still is...

  12. SoCal is traditional!

  13. Richmond, Virginia IS NOT.

  14. LOL seems like I know some people in Richmond. You may be right, they are not car guys.:D

Prescott Arizona. Not the capitol but the California Hot Rod guys are moving there.

  16. In January & February I would think the west Coast or Florida might be the warmest therefore it might bring out more hot rodders.

Ohio seems to have a large contingency of hot rodders but in the first two month's of the year the cars will all be in hibernation. HRP

When you look at places per capital and driving weather, Rochester, NH is hard to beat.

Before covid, we had a car show every Wednesday at Portland International Speedway, Portland, OR. On any given night there were 300 to 800 plus cars. The cut-off date was 1972 except for exotics. They always had a band, food and refreshments, (adult beverages available), and things for kids to do. It was sponsored by Beaches restaurant in Vancouver. All proceeds go to charity. Sadly they didn't have any shows this past year.

So-Cal was the place before covid. There used to be something going on every weekend, lots of museums and shops. Great weather. My favorite places are San Diego and Ventura.

Huntington Beach, Ca. every Saturday morning starting at 5:00 am at the corner of Magnolia and Adams. Then anywhere in the country but California.

The only place in the USA that you will get 75 F daily is Hawaii.

I've lived near both - NOT places you want to be in January and February - Might as well stay home in Sweden.

guess that OP is talking about next year - hopefully by then there will not be the Covid restrictions like now - Florida, So Calif and places like Arizona most likely warm and dry - but, never know what surprises Mother Nature has in store

I grew up in San Diego in the 50’s and 60’s and have a home in PB where I spend winter. Not this year! Plenty of car stuff going on and the beaches in the winter are great
