That picture of that canvas tent reminded me of back in the days of hot rod camp out car shows. One of the guys who went with us had one of those tents that was from his parents and he didn't bother to air it out before he brought it to the camp out. It had been sitting in a shed for who knows how long and when we put it together the inside smelled like a bear had died inside.

That is Jim Hoe of Weston, Ct. in his Model J Duesenberg that he raced at Watkins Glenn in the early 1950's and other SCCA events. Story goes that he bought a J sedan on Long Island, then asked the former owner for an ax and chopped the body off and left it there and drove the chassis home. The car is restored with a touring car body today. Bob

This is Bldg. 1 at the GMPG, Corvair Spyder in fore ground. Note the Competitive vehicles in the bldg. I retired from this building, worked in a few others in my career. Glad they didn't make us wear white. shop.jpg

  19. Hmmm,
With cars that broke down all the time no wonder FIAT stood for Fix it again Tony. I wonder if their trains derailed, ships sunk when they were put in water and the planes crashed after taking off?

According to my dad this was literally the slowest way from Government Camp up to Timberline Lodge. It broke down constantly and lost a lot of money during it's existence (started off with them clearing trees and building the towers only to realize they were building it in the wrong direction away from the Lodge, the do over was costly). It was faster to take the old Timberline Taxi or hitch a ride if you could flag someone down.
