I have a set of those 57-style dual exhaust manifolds that I scrounged up for a project I no longer have

That looks like a 9425 manifold with a large flange adapter. The manifold you want is a 9424 B should look like this [IMG]

They are all 9425, not 9424, but the "B" is important. The blue manifold is correct for 57-up carburetors.

Yep, 9425 is the general code for intake manifold, the prefix and suffix tell what vehicle line paid for the engineering, what model year it was designed for, and the revision

  5. That is a 2x1 intake using the Carter yh side draft carbs (liked they used on tubo Corvairs)

  6. What intake would that be? I did not post an intake.

  8. For gods sakes, since nobody else has been willing to drop a turd in the punchbowl, I’ll say it!

Go with period correct three deuces, live a little!

Is this the HAMB / Jalopy Journal, or Hot Rod Magazine?

Ever wonder why GTOs sold at auction often have 4-barrels on the engine/w 3-deuces in the trunk?

^^^^^^That's because most people can't figure out how to make them work. They are pretty easy to use, and work quite well.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you read Ted Eaton's Y-block manifold comparison at eatonbalancing.com.

I provided Ted with that three two intake , and was really disappointed in it’s performance! Really! But I am still going with the factory three ducks on my FE! Just for the “ Cool” factor! I won’t miss the few horsepower missing by using the three 2s!
But , for a Y-block, try to find an Edlebrock or any brand other than Offenhauser!

I ran both a 3x2 and a "B" manifold on my 57 292. Spent a month dialing in the 3x2's and bunch of $$ but in the end it ran like a top. Picked up a "B" manifold and tried both a 4100 and a Holley 650. The engine was far from stock. The 4100 ran great without any problems. It was the quickest with the Holley. In the end I put the 3x2's back on because everyone liked it.

Holley 500 2 bbl, mill the choke horn off and stick some 52 jets in that puppy. While you're at it, find a pair of ECZ-G heads. It will run!!!!

I,m with you.... except milling the choke! I am a choke fan! A carburetor cannot run properly, cold and hot, with out a choke! Might get away with it on a 100 degree day, but if you have to drive on a day like today, with a high of 5 degrees and a low of -10, you need that choke!

Yep, choke is a requirement around here.
A few times a year my neighbour has to move his 396 Chevy with no choke in sub freezing temperatures and it’s no fun getting that carburetor to cooperate.

I’ve had to move my y block powered wagon in the dead of winter from and unheated garage and she fires up on the choke no problem

If you have a Holley and no choke and live where the temperature gets kool..... you need to buy power valves by the six pack!

I just did a swap on my Meteor.
Factory 312 auto. Motor was freshened 30 years ago with guides, rings, and seals.
Went with a new Blue Thunder aluminum 4 barrel intake, 62 distributor with Pertronix, and a new Summit 600 carb (Holley flattop) with electric choke.
Had just installed Classic Air system, so the weight savings of the BT was much appreciated.
It’s like I uncorked another 40 hp and 60 lbs torque. This thing just plain runs now. I’m still running the original 56 Fordomatic, so the second gear starts aren’t amazing, but that’s part of the charm. Midrange is like night and day. Top end just keeps hiving and giving.
I finally feel that there’s a whole bunch of performance potential in there that I can untapped if I so desire.
I’m gonna ask Ted Eaton to prep a 292 I have, and use Mummert heads and aluminum everything. I’m thinking a T5 will be a real winner behind it now.
That 292 I have earmarked for this, my latest grey hair producing box of fun.

You're looking at an expensive build. The heads, alone, will cost over $3,000.

Someone stated they thought this was an “A”. I believe it’s a “B” with a spacer that says “top”. There are no fasteners for the smaller bolt pattern or a gasket. $180 now is a good price.
